It was you I had in mind but I wasn't suggesting it was your fault, not at all. I was only commenting because of our little chat last week about TV companies being completely out of touch with supporters when picking live FA cup games and this has proven that to be the case. Who makes these decisions?
The irony is that these faceless cretins at the TV companies chose to market their FA cup interest showing milkmen, postmen and builders, etc to give the impression that they understand the game and are in touch with the bread and butter fans but as soon as round 3 arrives they show just how clueless and out of touch they really are.
Not quite on the money, Mario - we chose that marketing option because we're all football fans here and love the romance/magic/whatever of the FA Cup - giant-killings, part-timers, muddy pitches with just a fence round them. That's what we want the FA Cup on the BBC to be like. Problem is that once the 3rd round comes along - the upper echelons of the corporation suddenly take an interest and couldn't give a flying one about what's gone before. They probably weren't even watching. We can kick & scream all we like, but if the BBC 1 controller decides he wants an all-Premiership tie because he's heard of the teams and thinks it'll pull the viewers in, there is, frankly, bugger-all we can do about it. There has been much tearing of hair in the office this week. We spend months and months planning the cup coverage, then have the rug pulled from under our feet due to some misguided belief that such a MASSIVE tie will bring in a bigger audience.
Brilliant reply Michael. I'd be tearing my hair out arnorl. Must frustrate the life outta ya, it would me. Keep banging the door down. I doubt it'll make a smidgen of difference but if ur like most of us, ull not be able to settle if ya don't.
I guess its like most companies - the rank and file getting ignored by those who hold power and quite frankly bhavent got a clue. I can sense the frustration in your post MF, it would annoy the hell out of me.
The bbc have no live premiership games, the fa cup gives them a chance to show the big boys live, unfortunately as you say the controller is so out of touch with football this is what happens I'm actually amazed Dover v palace isn't on
I take it #GETCARRIEDAWAY is going to be shelved until next season now. They're surely not going to try to convince us to get carried away by Arsenal v Hull. That would be adding insult to injury.
Somebody should have the balls to say live on air during the game that it is only being shown due to the controller overruling you all.
Probably the most out of touch organisation in the world right now, they do what they want because they answer to no-one but themselves and have a guaranteed income, and in the case of the 3rd round they want to pretend they show Premier League football with a live game from The Emirates.
You ought to send him a link to this thread and see what he makes of it. BBC have made a right balls up of this one, Arsenal vs Hull FFS?! I could half understand if it was Man Utd/Man City or a big game.
We're collecting the best of the posts on here and many other places (this is not the only public forum that's pissed off with the decision) to present to them upstairs (well, in that London) Not sure it will have any effect and certainly won't trigger a change of heart over Arsenal-Hull, but hopefully come R4..... Let's just hope that Arsenal-Hull game is a belter.
An out of touch decision by an out of touch programme selector. Wherever I go people still talk about the Liverpool barnsley game (I know it wasnt a live broadcast but there were arguments for it ) and the Barnsley v Chelsea game (which was) I'm sure there's lots of other games which are still discussed by lots of neutral fans.but ffs how many will be talking about the arsenal hull game by the end of the season let alone in the future.
To be honest mate I hope it's a 0-0 bore draw so they have nothing to justify their decision with. Great what you're doing with public reactions though.
