IMO it's an incredible institution, and one we should protect. Like anything, there's always room for improvement, but it is phenomenal value at less than 50p a day.

For some people yes. For others it really isn't. I don't really watch anything at all on the BBC. I probably occasionally do but there's nothing I can think of, in fact I honestly can't think what the last programme I watched on the BBC was (at home. I've seen low quality quizzes and game shows when I've been at other people's houses) and since they've massacred the local radio programming I don't even listen to radio dee dar at all so 50p a day for something I dont use at all isn't good value for me, its basically extortion.

CeeBeebies alone is worth the licence fee. Name me another pre-school channel that provides high-quality educational and entertaining content without subjecting its audience to constant adverts for the latest must-have toys.

Then there's iPlayer, BBC News, BBC Sport, BBC Weather.

Not to everyone's tastes, perhaps, but I'm happy to cough up my £160.

On the other side of the coin, there's ITVX. Even if they doubled the length of the ad breaks, I still wouldn't pay £6.99 for the ad free option. I guess I'm accustomed to seeing ads on ITV, but not on the BBC. I'd hate it if the licence fee was scrapped in favour of a commercial BBC set-up.

I don’t watch BBC. I rarely watch TV. I listen to World Service and 6Music and that’s about it. It’s not just about me though. It creates incredible content which reaches 100s of millions of people globally. For me personally, I’m happy to chip in 50p a day to keep that going.

If you watch any live telly, you must pay the licence fee.

I know. Hence why it's pretty much extortion. In order to be allowed to do one thing you're forced to pay for something else.

It's like a monster forcing you to give him £100 to eat at a rivals restaurant or hell break your legs.

The BBC ‘license’ offers so much more in value and quality than any other provider, there really is no comparison.

Sky - massively expensive and comes added adverts. Even more money to add on sports which is the only real selling point for Sky.

BT/TNT - we have this, started out costing ok, but now a fortune. We got it so could watch rugby and Sky Sports as an add on. The set top box is proper w@nk, keeps going tong and interface is awful.

Netflix - pretty much complete bollix. My wife watches awful American romance series on it. Little to zero decent drama, but not bad comedy, especially live stuff. Oh, After Life, one excellent series.

Amazon Prime - watched some decent fantasy serials, Good Omens is a standout (made with BBC though). Get the odd premier league match and some rugby thrown in. Better quality overall than Netflix.

Disney+ - Worth it for Star Wars and Marvel content alone. Andor is a standout series, brilliant cast, gritty, claustrophobic and nuanced. Marvel films got me through Covid, the last two (of the old story arc) were exceptional. Classic Disney content is a must for my daughter and my son loves all the new Marvel and Star Wars content. Best streaming service there is.

BBC - cheaper than all the rest, comes with radio that you cannot beat (R4, R6), the best drama and comedy series in the world, a go to news service and excellent cricket coverage on radio and web. Websites and iPlayer are excellent.
