Fantastic comments - the preston gaffer said much the same to me after the event.

Scores and scorers & mini-reports. If (non-biased) full match reports are needed Al, let me know.

    Barnsley 1 Police Team 0
Some of the best football we've ever played came in this game I think, and despite the controversy that threatened to rob us, we deserved to win. Once in the first half, and once in the second half, Simon (simonbfc) was hacked over inside the penalty area absolutely blatantly by late challenges - twice the referee somehow didn''t give them. After the 2nd one wasn't given, the opposition defenders actually laughed. This was probably when the referee realised he'd made a mistake. The next time Simon managed to get away, he was tugged back just outside the penalty area, and the referee gave a penalty, presumably to compensate for the awful decisions. I was pretty uncomfortable with taking it as the area was cut up quite badly, but the keeper gave me just enough room to put it in, via his hand. Was relieved to score it as he proved to be excellent throughout the rest of the tournament. A minute later, their striker ran through and "went down" (dived, in my opinion) and the referee staggeringly gave them a penalty back. Luckily, their man put it wide, and we got a 1-0 win that we deserved.

    Barnsley 3 Bury 'A' 0
Again, in the first half, we were excellent. Kieran got the first goal after a long-throw by Ross got flicked on by myself and Richie's cross-shot deflected nicely into his path. Took it very well. 1-0 at halftime but could have been more, myself and Simon missing a couple of chances. In the second half, they created a few more openings but couldn't hit the target, and Simon scored a great shot from outside the box into the top corner to give us a cushion. Late on, Jonno pounced on some awful confusion between defender and goalkeeper to run through and tap into the empty net (for what I think was his first goal for the team in 4 years!? ) Another good effort.

    Barnsley 4 Port Vale 2
Think we were starting to tire in this game after the 1 hour 20 minute break stiffened up a few players legs. Took the lead quite early on when Simon beat two men and calmly slotted the ball into the corner, before a bit of nervy defending allowed them to equalise, meaning it was 1-1 at half time. Lee then turned the game with a couple of cracking balls, the first one which I managed to put home from about 8 yards, and the second one that I managed to put in the corner from outside the box. Ross then added a fourth (I'll credit him with it - maybe an OG eh Ross?) before they got another goal late on as we started to tire.

    Semi Final
    Preston 3 Barnsley 0
We had tired badly here, and after Simon shot just wide at 0-0 with a good effort, their pacy winger began to cause us real problems and they raced into a 3-0 lead. We battled very bravely in the 2nd half to keep it to 3-0, with a couple of half-chances all we really managed to create.

Was a great warm-up event. Thought Bill and Steve did very well at centre-half considering they played 30 minutes in all 4 games, Harper and Rich were excellent in the middle of the park aswell, Kieran did really well out on the wing (best I've seen him play I think, very good), Varley was solid as ever, and myself and Simon managed to take most of our chances after sometimes feeling that we don't really score enough goals for the team. Overall though, absolutely everyone did well, nobody let the side down, and we should be competitive at Worldnet at the weekend. Thanks to Allen for getting us in the event, was a great warm-up.

RE: How long was each game?

30 minutes - if the games had been straight after each other, I don't think tiredness would have been an issue - think it was just the gaps between games which stiffened everyone's legs up and made it hard to get going again.</p>

Particularly after a trip to the burger van. :D
