its a pity we cant do what the yanks do in american football bring him on to take free kicks.
He's much use for owt else these days

I got the impression he was dropped for good when I watched the press conference Reports now say that Beckham is fuming at the way he has been treated by McClaren
I'm not surprised I'd be fuming too - one of our best and most consistant players for a decade, and in terms of attitude and work rate first class, and not even one of our worst players in the World cup, and to be used to make a political statement in that way is very poor. I'm impressed with the way he has conducted himself on this though
Spot on He's been treated very badly in my opinion. Even if you think his time was up, he has been an excellent captain and had learned to deal with the media really well, look what he was like when he first started. Don't like McClaren at all and haven't got a great deal of faith in him and will wait with interest to see what he produces.
Not just any John Salako, mind. I'm talking the (in italics, seeing as it won't f**king do it) John Salako. Have that.
The exact same point came up in conversation last night. The time might have arrived when he's a luxury we can't afford.
.

RE: its a pity we cant do what the yanks do in american football Do they have free kicks in American Football?!
Should'nt have taken him to the World Cup, Should never have been captain... PROS: Good with a dead ball from 30yrds CONS: No pace Cannot run with the ball like (SWP or Lennon) **** @ penalties Not very vocal to say he's captain of his country injury prone por disciplinary record
RE: Right decision to drop him, but wrong decision to drop him altogether Wrong (in my opinion). Beckham has tried to make himself a central midfield play maker and it never works. Beckham hasn't got the first touch or the overall awareness to play through the middle - I'll accept that he's an excellent passer of the ball across distances, his crossing his exceptional, his free kicks are wonderful (at times), but his tackling is woeful and sometimes dangerous, he is given to fits of temper on the pitch (lunging in etc) and his enqine is questionable so he won't go box to box. Not the man through the middle. If the world cup has taught us anything at all it's that we have to make tough choices in the midfield department and not try to carry all the big names on pitch at once. Gerrard through the middle, his cover on the bench is Lampard, the ball winner is Hargreaves, and both wings have pace and guile with Cole and Lennon. No room for Becks - although he's been a decent captain, an excellent free kick taker and a great bloke.
RE: Beckham gave his all when captain..... but it's the right decision by McCllaren-theres some better options coming through and we need to get them laying and intergrated into the set up for the euro's. Biggest problem is still going to be the Gerrard/Lampard situation, and i think McClaren is going to have to be bold about that. personally, i'd drop Lampard and put Hargreaves in, but thats just me...........
