There's only been a handful of games where we've been crap and deserved the loss. But there's not been all that many more where we've totally bossed it and blown away the opposition. Rest of the time there's not been much between the sides. Yet we haven't lost any of those. In tight games we win or draw and it's secured us at least the playoffs. Lindsay, Pinnock and Davies stop the opposition scoring, Moore and Woodrow bag the goals. We work hard and we're very successful. But more often than not it's not a good watch. We could still end the season with our highest ever points total yet in the majority of games I've seen (there are some notable exceptions) I've been bored daft. An epic promotion campaign it is not. I've been lucky enough to see some of those, we didn't scrape results week after week, we were by far the better team.
‘More often than not, not a good watch’ That’s not the same team I’ve been watching then. Most of the games have been a good watch and a good number of our wins could’ve been won more emphatically, and some of our draws should’ve been comfortable wins. However, to say we have not been a good watch more often than not seems to be an over- reaction to our recent form in my view
I genuinely saw us win more away games last season when we were relegated than I have this season. I've managed to pick and choose the games where we've been cack and it's made for pretty grim watching for me this season. Been alright when we've battered teams and I've not been able to go mind!
I think it's been a great season, we've hammered most teams and, in the words of many opposition fans and managers, we've been one of the best sides in the division. I trust their unbiased views, I've really enjoyed the season.
I agree, we ve created loads of chances so hardly boring to watch. I'm enjoying this season, it's such a change to go into matches expecting to score and not to lose.
We have played some of the best football I've seen us play since Wilson took us to the premier league imo. Good football doesn't always get you results though it's about putting the ball in the net taking your chances when on top we didn't do that againsy many teams Sunderland and Coventry most recent.
I would still argue that in football terms, our football is the best in the division. With the exception of maybe Luton, I've not seen anyone match us. However this is a results business and I believe some some teams are better than us at gaining points but are less easy on the eye. Our youthful side have performed above my expectations this season. Our coach, a breath of fresh air....However, we are not without criticism and have our faults. On the pitch our shooting and set pieces are poor. The football we produce (usually in patches) is of a high standard for this division. Off the pitch of course, you kind of believe in the plan or don't but our major downfall has been the ability to get in a 3rd striker (loan or orherwise) to compliment our fantastic front 2 and sometimes we get bullied with sheer gamesmanship. On the whole I'm enjoying the season.
I think it’s been a very good season overall. We’ve dominated pretty much every game at Oakwell and plenty away from home, scoring loads of goals and not conceding many. Some of the football we’ve played at times has been from a level far better than the one we’re playing at. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, whether we go up or not.
What the hell are you talking about. We’ve been outstanding this season. Clean sheets galore and scored 3+ goals in loads of games! Most games I go away thinking how have we not scored 4-5 there. You don’t have a clue what you’re on about.
Yep we've dominated pretty much every game at home apart from Gillingham, Walsall, Wimbledon, Plymouth, Bristol rovers, Southend, Donny Rovers, Portsmouth and Sunderland. Apart from those every one.
Portsmouth we dominated and played well they looked ***** Sunderland if we took our chances we win. Agree with the others but with Southend I've never seen a team time waste and play for a draw as much in my life.
The glass isn't half empty, it's an all-consuming void from which nothing can escape, be it matter, light, hopes or dreams. Only joking, love you really Conan.
I agree with a lot you say but I’ve been to various away games since the 80s and I’ve never seen such a complete mastery as I saw at Bradford and Rochdale in many a year
I think the standard of football is average at best especially the second half of the season . I keep hearing fans saying it's the best 'passing and 'attacking' football we've seen in years, well I must be missing something because all I see is 22 blokes chasing a ball like kids in the playground.
Agree, there's been some amazing performances My personal favourite was Southend away second half. But IMHO which clearly is a minority opinion is that for the most part we haven't played all that well but got the results. Never known a Barnsley team grind out results like this team before. Very rarely have we been outplayed, I think the number of losses reflect that. And there's been some games where we've dominated totally, I reckon about 10. The rest have been close but we've got the results. I do think it's disingenuous to say otherwise and not recognise this a team of winners rather than a team who plays the opposition off the park.
We played well in periods against Portsmouth and Sunderland but we didn't dominate them. Porte, outs looked poor but I still wouldn't say we dominated them.
In your opinion of course, The only games I see there which we weren’t the better side were Donny, and then there wasn’t. Much to choose between the 2 ,their goal and the late chance came by way of poor defensive lapses. Plymouth had chances and gave us a very good game, but we generally dictated play. Walsall equalised 2 mins from time. Sunderland weren’t good and like Pompey we came away rightly believing we should’ve had all 3 points.
Sadly this results been waiting to happen the last couple of weeks, last minute goals and goal line clearances have papered over the cracks. But onwards and upwards, let’s try and get a little momentum going, we are a very good team, as much as some of us fear the play offs and certain teams in the play offs, I personally don’t fear anyone, on our day I believe we are the best side in the division. So come on you reds, keep the faith. P.S, I’ve really enjoyed the football this season COYR
