I believe this is the case; this was a problem in January. Add Stockport and a few others to that list, as well. Clubs have been throwing money at getting promoted this season before the SCMP changes next year, making it harder to overspend.
Football has changed. We don't sign players without watching them. A lot of the time, this is done by watching videos of games and this isn't fairly common across the industry. We do still send people to games to watch, though.
These stats need putting to the board inc the man himself and the fans deserve to know why they find them acceptable' and if they don't find them acceptable what they intend to do about it.
A Director of Football needs to be a football man... as Harry Redknapp said...Director of Football is my job. “I’ve never been in favour of them or wanted to work under one. How can someone else select your players and not be accountable when you have to work with them and if they’re rubbish you get the blame?”
Do you not think we are overloaded Paul. Both in terms of players and backroom playing staff. They've obviously trimmed the budget. but imo make the mistake of looking at quantity over quality. Hoping they'll come good. I honestly dont know what Mladen brings to the table. We have 2 centre halves out on loan who have played 1st team games. We could do with both now. Yet again defenders having to play out of their natural position. Cut the quantity and get the quality put money into that rather than flog a dead horse. Then look at the loan market as and when necessary. We have Dallas ( out on loan) and Had Shaw (now offloaded.) Looking like pointless investments. All Based on analytics. The Robert's and DKD deals didn't need analytics. Just watching.
The owners appointed DOF,DOF oversees the recruitment team, the recruitment team works with the coach ,the coach has the final say on transfers. If we are to play the blame game would it be fair to say the recruitment team need to up their game? Regarding the coach having the final say that came from Clarke himself. Its seems there was a slight change in the signing of Lewis.
Who got that nice gig then going over to France and watching Clem play in lower French league over a period of time?....
Clarke didn't even get to pick his assistant or any of the coaching team so I find it hard to believe that he has any say whats so ever.
Cheers D. I've done plenty but I don't get into personal abuse of players. (Until they leave. Then its open season) As I don't think it achieves owt positive. They know when they've had a **** game without fans jumping on social media and giving dogs abuse.
Geniune question - What input did Clarke have in the signings of Rodrigues, Lembikisa and Lewis? My theory is none. I’ll be interested to know what you think.
Do you honestly believe we properly scouted Clem mate, surely you don’t believe that is the case. We are now into March and a transfer deadline signing(Clem) from January still isn’t trusted to start a game, load of crap pal to think he as been frequently watched and deemed to be what we need, and if he really has been watched and been decided upon as what we need then who as decided this needs a good bollllocking imo afraid.
Whilst the head coach has input into the recruitment process as in identifying what he's looking for for the recruitment team to then find the options as close to that as possible is correct, but to say he has the final say is inaccurate. I will back this up with the Rodrigues signing, in absolutely no way did Darrell Clarke have any input on the Clement Rodrigues signing. Clarke indicated to the recruitment team he wanted someone who could get in behind but also have the physical attributes of a target man, I'm not suggesting he hasn't identified specific names and asked for players, which I'm told he did with DKD hence several bids went in, but equally to say he has final say on transfers is a generalisation which is not true. I fully agree with your points around recruitment though we need to up our game, we've a couple of young lads to my Knowledge in the recruitment team that have been here a few years and are capable, but they are now working off a different hym sheet to a couple of years ago.
I mentioned in my post that the recent recruitment had changed in the signing of Lewis. It was Clarke himself who said he had the final say on recruitment.
That was during the summer when he was 3 weeks into the job giving off sound bites to appease, he was presented with Lewis as an option and led on that transfer as you mention, but there's also a big bulk of players that he had no influence on, the 2 players I was told he wanted we got were DKD and Gent.
Yes. Sormaz mistake was to watch the Under 7's when he joined. That's the model implemented. The first XI aren't quite grasping it, but on yesterday's evidence they are getting there.
