Clever them. No wonder they were so decisive in cancelling Wimbledon.

I'd be interested in seeing what their insurance cover actually states though. Who defines when an outbreak starts and ends?

That’s all well and good but the EFL are clearly forgetting that there are a lot of foreign footballers currently back in their homeland. Half of our team and our manager are in different countries. Can anyone really see them all being allowed to travel back to the UK? All countries are at different stages with Covid-19 and I can’t see any flights flying in or out of this country until late June at the very earliest.

    Stupid idea

I'm guessing when the WHO officially declared it as one is the start date.

I'm not sure really but there are options.

Only play each team once with it drawn whether you're home or away (in a similar way to Scotland).
No cups at all to try to reduce the amount of fixtures and no international breaks.
Just cups with the cup format temporarily changed to one closer to the champions League so more games.

Not really sure what but there are different possibilities

    Always? Sometimes.
Reading what he says though it becomes more and more clear that he is only interested in himself. He's just very clever in making it sound like he isn't.

I also think clubs and fans will want a new, fresh start.

Since when has football been classed as essential.

It's a profession just like anything else.

And who's going to foot the bill and answer to it if/when a PLAYER dies of it in this mad rush to complete a season, cos I'm sure one will at some point.

Why should footballers be expected to "go to work" and risk themselves.

All these arguments about cancel or continue.. footballers are people. And football is not essential. When is anyone going to put the welfare of people first (footballers, managers, kit washers, and anyone involved in playing a game, whether or not fans are in attendance)

    Its ******* bonkers.

For me the sensible thing now would be to wind it up , let clubs plan their resources and funding for a new season sometime later in the year.
Even if we restarted in the near future after all the deaths and domestic trauma I don’t think it would feel right .
And even if it was played out it would be like a short tournament not like continuation.

I couldn’t give a shiny ***** what they do with this season as long as everyone remains as safe as they can be.

Was having a chat to a mate earlier and the topic got onto football. He mentioned something that I’ve not thought about at all.

How long until the FIFA video games start putting pressure on for a new season to start so that they can release a new game? He’s in the game industry and recons they won’t be able to release a new game until there’s a new season, or they lose their entire USP. He thinks that will cost them ~$1.5 billion.

Ultimately it will be the government (on advice) that will dictate when a game of football can again be played. This won't be until the 2 metre 'rule' and/or the essential work only rule is lifted.
So basically the EFL, the PL nor the world's most learned medical scientist knows when that may be.

They just don't get it. Would be like Heysel and the Cup Final following Hillsborough, nobody gave a sh*t about who won.

I agree, if this season is going to run past the scheduled start of next season, then next season should be cancelled and this season completed. After the end of the current season (whenever that is, hopefully before Christmas) the time remaining before the start of the Euros in 2021 should be filled with local leagues and cup competitions (Yorkshire, The Midlands, Lanashire, South East etc) much like during the Second World War.
