Scowen's actually a defensive midfielder. Always played that role at Wycombe. He's even admitted in interviews he finds the attacking side of the game harder & needs to work on his finishing & final ball because it's not natural for him to be so far forward

Django is correct. Mind, you think dividing the pitch into zones is sports science so we should take your opinions with a pinch of salt.

    My MOTM with White.

Looked a complete midfielder today. Strong in the tackle and tenacious, spread the ball about well, always available to take the ball from the back four, got forward well notable for the fourth goal, didnt stop running. Couldn't have asked for anymore.

You say 'you're having a laugh' Tyrone but he has 9 goals half way through the season. Not far off so far is he?

He was fantastic yesterday. If you have a central midfield player putting in that kind of performance your team dominates the match, they score 4 goals and they're easy victors.

Before yesterday's game we were in the bottom 4 having lost more than twice as many games as we'd won. We were in such a position partly due to the fact that in the majority of games we haven't had a central midfield player putting in the kind of performances that Ben Pearson gave yesterday. You don't find yourself in the relegation zone in League 1 if you have a central midfield player who consistently performs to that level, because you win a hell of a lot more games.

Ben wasn't the only one like, Isgrove, Winnall and Watkins also gave season best performances, while Hourihane and Hammill provided plenty of support, but, for once, weren't the stand out performers as the others stepped up. They've shown us what they can do now, the trick is to maintain that level or something close to it.

Would we miss Pearson if he leaves? We'd struggle to sign anyone who can put in the kind of performance he did yesterday on a regular basis, so if he can keep that up, yes we would. But, other than Hammill and perhaps Hourihane, no team will miss players who, for the majority of the season, have given displays that have deservedly seen their team in the relegation zone.

One player doesn't make a team. I'm not suggesting Pearson is the primary reason that we've found ourselves in the position we're in. There have been worse players this season without question. But he's started 22 of our 23 league games so he's played a major part in it. And when he's at the top of his game, like yesterday and against Gillingham and Swindon, we do win football matches. When he's not, which, for me at least, has been far more frequent this season, we lose an awful lot.

Is it any coincidence that in the same week he's linked to a PL move, he has a stormer?

Amazing what happens when your loan/short term contract is due to run out the following week.

See Isgrove/Wabara & Pearson. Shop window.

Maybe, but that doesn't explain how well Watkins and Winnall played, neither of whom have got close to that level for the majority of the season. I dunno what caused such an improvement in so many players yesterday, but I hope it continues. It wasn't so much the standard of football either, it was the desire. The number of times we won 50-50 challenges or picked up the loose ball when we were second favourite eclipsed all the rest of the season combined. It's like they finally understood what they were being asked to do and for the first time since Johnson's arrival, we played the game like he describes it.

I'm not getting carried away. We've had many more $hit performances than good ones. I got a bit giddy after the Everton match..

No you're right, but most good performances have a catalyst. There were a couple for us:

Winnall's early goal, set up by Pearson & Wabara.
Isgrove's driving run to set up Winnall.
Pearson in that last half hour.

You could see the confidence just flow through them after that second goal - space started opening up, suddenly they're moving forward and taking men on rather than slow passing & it just clicked. Joy to watch.

But my point was a little tongue in cheek but I imagine it doesn't harm a bit of desire if you're looking to either confirm you're getting a new loan deal or want to put yourself in someone elses plans.
