Rooneys wasnt even a foul. I am guessing after the furore of this the FA will try and give Thatcher a longer ban , however as the Ref gave him a yellow so as the rules state thats that. If the FA try to do something else they will get hammered by FIFA.
I am not excusing Thatcher of anything.

RE: So that makes the challenge ok then does it? Well hopefully the FA, and it's board will finally have some B*ll*cks and take action on more serious offences. Cantana assaulting a fan, banned for xx months.... To me Thatcher assaulted a player, and I hope Mendes takes the matter further as Man City fans are willing to make statements against him.
RE: Rooneys wasnt even a foul. The FA can act if it becomes a police investigation, which some people are wanting it to become, including Man City fans!!! If the FA do **** all on this, then for me they are allowing this sort of thing to happen.
If the Police get invloved then all hell will break loose. Any tackle where you miss the ball and collect the player can be constituted as assault.
I can't wait.

RE: If the Police get invloved then all hell will break loose. Are you having a laugh??? Have you seen the same replay as everyone else?? Thatcher elbowed the player on purpose. If I had done that to you in the street or on a football pitch I would be up for charges. For me, bring on the charges. Lets kick people like him out of the sport!! The FA have not acted in the past (shearer booting lennon in the head)
Unless he gets jailed then nothing is gonna happen. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/5281686.stm
RE: Unless he gets jailed then nothing is gonna happen. About time FIFA, UEFA, and all the other governing bodies got some B*ll*cks and changed the rules. Thugs like Thatcher get away with too much.
RE: I am not excusing it , I am saying he didn't look to knock him out. F.F.S. what bleeding planet are you from you pillock. perhaps you should stop and not make light of what appears to have been a serious assault.
I think they are looking at it being affecting the authority of the Ref. They "upgrade" this and it will be retrospective city.

I am not making light of it. If thats what you think then it is you who are the Pillock.
I am merely saying that I doubt it was deliberate the elbow. He looks like he was gonna launch no matter what , I just dont think he set out to knock him out.

RE: I am not making light of it. As I have said, the elbow was deliberate, that is clear (I have looked at it loads of times in very slow motion and you can see him pull it back, then thrust it forward). Regardless of intending to knock him out, he assaulted someone. NOW THE FA ARE NOT GOING TO ACT, IF I WAS MENDES AND PORTSMOUTHS I WOULD PRESS FOR POLICE CHARGES.
RE: I think they are looking at it being affecting the authority of the Ref. If the ref's were of a good standard I could understand the comment you have just made, but the majority of premier league refs are very poor and make some major errors. Bring in TV replays for me, if it kicks the likes of Thatcher out of football.
If it was that simple they would use TV Replays for every decision. We wouldnt need a ref.
We could use a air horn to stop the play whilst the video review took place.

Just received a text from Ben Thatcher Said he definitely did it on purpose and straight afterwards was trying to get his pistol out of his sock to unload 6 bullets into him. Unfortunately, the ref blew his whistle and stopped him. Ben's not happy about that.
RE: If it was that simple they would use TV Replays for every decision. Now you are taking the piss!!! Another suggestion, do what they do on Rugby... A ref is unclear on a incident so he puts the player on 'report. He then uses tv replays after the game to help his decision!
I have thought that a good idea, however that doesnt benefit the team they are playing against if after the match it looks like someone should have been sent off.
RE: I have thought that a good idea, however And just giving that player a yellow card doesn't benefit the team either.......... What it does mean is that the player involved is free to be charged by the FA and have a suitable ban given to him!!
RE: Just received a text from Ben Thatcher This is one mad situation that didn't have to happen. What a complete loser he is.
I bloody doubt it... For one thing, Thatcher has got previous for this kind of shameful behaviour - there's bad character evidence on this idiot. It wasn't a tackle, there was no way he intended to play the ball, he simply wanted to take the player, and he made sure that he got him 100% but cracking him across the jaw with his forearm (which when you look at the replay, he actually swung at him as he went through). Yes there was momentum, but there was a lot he could have done to minimise the collision (i.e. not raising his elbow to the face of the opponent). He didn't exactly put his palms up to cushion the impact did he? He wasn't looking at the ball was he? He didn't flinch at the collision (as someone would if it was an accident) - the fact was, he knew he was going through the lad, and he'd braced himself for it long before he got there. Afterwards there was no remorse. If it had been an accident and you'd been involved - hospitalising another player - you had been doing everything to help him, you'd have been checking his breathing, turning him onto his side, waving to the bench and st johns ambulance wildly etc etc, apologising all the time you were doing it... did that happen?? Not a chance. Ben Thatcher is an animal who has no fit purpose in the game. The first time he did it he got the benefit of the doubt. I'd ban him for the rest of the season and I'd turn him over to the police with the evidence to prosecute him for at least actual bodily harm. I' surprised anyone would stick up for him.
