I'm from Royston but met the first wife who was from Upton, got a house down Clayton Avenue, ( my lads still live their) i also got one of the pit houses, 27k I paid for it in 98, I used to play football for the Wrangbrook, their is houses now near that rocket at the top of school street, what was you in jedi ?
army air corp, 9 years 156 days and an early breakfast. i used to booze in the ranch, well all of them except the brookside, green hat, crossleys, crowsnest ( i was a member there even in my army days) social and the upton arms, the village was a hell of a pub crawl
I know Upton pretty well. Upton Colliery had three players who made it as professional footballers, all in the same position for the club, but became centre halves in their professional careers. They were Charlie Williams (Doncaster Rovers), Ralph O'Donnell (Wednesday) and Joe Shaw (Blunts). Also from Upton was Mick Speight who played for Blunts. I think there is probably at least one more player who made it professionally - just checked - it was Len White who started at Rotherham and went to be the new Jackie Milburn at Newcastle before joining Huddersfield and then finishing at Stockport. Leonard Parkin, the ITV newsreader was also from Upton and John Godber, the playwright. For a small mining village on a hill in the middle of nowhere, that's a pretty good role-call. Keep the beacon burning!!
Upton was quality about 25 years ago club wise, crossleys, bloody hell, spent some time in their, the crows nest hasn't changed one bit. army air Corp, must have done OK at school, saying that I was infantry and a very good friend of mine was succesful in transferring as a pilot, from a trench to an Apache, some career change, the army pilots would fly in most weathers when we needed picking up in ulster, the RAF crabs on the other hand wouldnt if their was a gently breeze ha ha
Offer them £1 million with add ons up to £1.5m, they won't get £2m for him and Strubers said he wouldn't be in the starting 11 yet.
If they don't think he's good enough for the first 11, then they're just wasting their time. We already have Styles, Wolfe and Palmer to provide the potential in midfield.
that because a lot of the aircrew were ex grunts/tankies /gunners from the old air sqn days and that rubbed off on the new breed of direct entry aac that started in 74?, i was number 56 direct entry and knew numbers 1+2
Were upping the bid by 50p each time last bid rejected was £500.50p and a percy Turner. You tight reds.
Thought Micky Speight was from Wombwell as My Aunty and uncle went to school with him and they went to Wombwell High?
No way should we be offering a Percy Turner’s and cash. In fact, we should receive player and cash for a Percy Turner’s pie.
Basically what I was getting at ,we piss about with bids trying to get em on the cheap, for a player you really want then someone comes in offers a realistic bid and we lose out.
leonard parkins mum live on harewood lane a few doors up and opposite from charlie williams auntie victoria i believe
Just had a read and most comments seemed reasonable enough to me. He is their best player, we'd be worried about Woodrow going cheap too.
here you go... Anything close to this on the Rovers website? some of their fans are numpties, but some of ours are complete tw@ s
