He got into some great positions attacking wise. As did Cavare (although he wasn’t as good as usual, along with everyone else). Our problem is we expect our fullbacks to provide all the width, the crosses, and also get back into position to defend - often 2 on 1 as the widest players ahead of them (Thiam and Potts) offer absolutely no protection. I think our style and formation is great against less physical, and more technical teams - Luton, Peterborough, Fleetwood. Or those that give us a bit too much respect (Gillingham first half). But against those who harry us, pump it long, get in our faces we are far far too easily intimidated and let players in behind regularly. And when teams get on top of us like yesterday our heads just go down and we let them bully us all over the park, and we don’t have the technical skill to play out from the back, or through the middle, that is being asked when being pressured. Would much rather go straight 4-4-2 against the physical teams. Let defenders stay back more and keep in shape, then let the wingers and strikers try and cause their back 4 problems. Sure winkler and Stendel will sort it out. It’s easy to forget they are so new to this style of football and our players. I’m not surprised they stuck to the same style that beat Peterborough and Luton. But now is probably the time to work on Style B and C.
Hedges wasn't great at left back v Plymouth he was the man who let their lad cut inside for the equaliser without making a challenge or even making it hard work.
