Doug O'Kane says Duff describes Benson as "a very, very good player". I sincerely hope we all agree with that assessment by mid-season. I remember his sublime pass for Sibbick's goal in our opening game at Cardiff last season. It will be great if that sort of pass from Benson becomes a regular feature in the coming months and if the lad shows 100% commitment.

Think we might have a player with Benson. I know he has been slated in the past, but the fact that Duff is now the Coach & he knows him, surely it will have a positive effect on his game. We shall see.

His couple of appearances at the start of last season gave confidence that he has something about him. For whatever reason, it didn't work after that.

I feel that Duff is the sort of man who won't have favourites, and will pick players on merit (or at least I hope) so Josh will have to perform to get/keep in the side.

He might be mate, but the majority of his performances last season were abysmal. He showed glimpses early in the season, nothing more. I can't put my finger on why it didn't work for him, and I reckon it could, but he was one of the weakest performers in a very weak squad last season, and there's no getting away from that.

Bone idle waster last season who would have been sacked in most other jobs for standing around with his hands on his hips all the time whilst supposedly working.

He has got a lot to make up for in my opinion so better start putting in the effort and making it up to the fans after contributing to relegation by laziness

Confidence and the harder he tried the more things didn't go his way.

It's happened to us all at one point or another.

I thought there was signs of a decent footballer at times , although these imo were overshadowed by a lack of effort at times .
With the coaching appointment we’ve made I think a second chance is a fair option especially the money we’ve laid out but he won’t be allowed as much time to prove it this season as far as a normal debut season goes imo .

He started well then his head dropped. He wasn't the only one. The further their heads dropped, the worse they got. Woodrow, Brittain, Styles .....,. I could go on. By the time we were on our second 5h1te manager of the year, Benson was already broken.
He would not have been allowed to drop his head, nor stand with his hands on his hips under big Val. Hopefully Duff won't allow that posturing either.

Josh needs both a rocket up his 4rse and an arm around his shoulder. A gentle reminder that he could go from the Prem to the conf to obscurity in super fast time.

Conversely, he could be back in the Champ with us and keep his career upwardly mobile.

It's mostly down to himself which way he goes. With more than a bit of guidance from Duff.

    Fingers crossed.

I wouldn’t put my arm round the shoulder of someone who has a rocket up their arse but I get the point

I think that any assessment of last season’s performances must be in the light of the management we had. Contrast the apathy of players last year with energy of the year before. It’s not just Benson you should be looking at. I hope we have a manager now who can inspire the players.

I disagree to a point. I don't think it was often a case of him trying too hard. There were times where he didn't look like he was trying at all. Again, as you say, that could be down to confidence, but I wouldn't say his confidence was shot due to trying too hard. Maybe he found the level a lot tougher than he was expecting, having only played a handful of Premier League games.

I thought Benson's best game was Luton away. Bossed midfield and it all went to pot when Asbaghi went for it with the subs and moved Benson out of the centre.

    He's been hard done for.

I'm excited by our young squad for next season.

Considering the dreadful state the club was in last season is it any wonder him and others appeared so disinterested and lacklustre.
The new Duff era might reignite what was always there, this time without interference from know-nowts.

Only Morris and the keeper are not guilty of shocking form last season. Bensons problem is he didn’t have any credit in the bank being a new player. I think he’s a good footballer. Let’s hope he shows it.

If we are relying on Cole & Iseka we are in trouble, replace them two with Morris & Aitcheson & things look better
