Speaking from experience, I tested positive 2 days after feeling unwell & I’d done tests on the two days previous that both came back negative. Glad he didn’t go to Bournemouth & risk infecting the rest of the squad.
Now we have clarification I do hope all those who posted and all those who supported unsubstantiated rumours have a look inside and resolve not to start such **** (eg no half time team talk; Josh has fallen out with MS) off again if we're faced with similar circumstances.
Can you let me know what other things are not in your eyes confidential information about a person's health, just so I can brief the policy makers and ensure I don't fail my next data protection e-learning? How about the clap? IBS? Piles? Thanks in advance.
Reading between lines were definitely looking at mid October before we have anything like a full squad to choose from.
To be fair to Dreamboy, I don't understand the current situation where people think their health information should be private/protected (i.e. they don't want to broadcast to people that they have covid, understandably), but then they think it's okay to question others on whether they have had the jab, which is also personal health information that should be private and not asked about. Double standards at the moment, which creates confusion. I also saw a fair few responses regarding Benson about his personal life and maybe it's a family bereavement that kept him out, I don't know what led people to keep bringing this up.
Why all the bloody secrecy from the club? I get that in certain situations they may not want to comment but in this instance a statement straight away confirming he has covid would have stopped all the rumours!
Ok. As someone fairly solidly on the happy clapper side of the fence I'll ask this. A matchday teamsheet is released with one of our key midfielders missing from the squad and the team looking decidedly threadbare on paper. Do we genuinely think people aren't going to speculate and the more imaginative of our twitterati fanbase come up with some thing way out there? It's not a crime to be covid positive. It could happen to any of us at any time. Just state the perfectly innocent facts like many sports clubs do and get ahead of the curve rather than have idle and potentially more damaging speculation. And I'm not having a go at Whitey here by the way. The farce about not addressing the visa situation of the Belgians is another case in point. What was the problem in saying we haven't been able to sort out their visas?
I suppose yeh, but then the club couldn't anticipate the ferocity of the rumours! I guess they could have said 'not available due to illness' but as a fan personally it doesn't bother me. I certainly didnt feel the need to jump on here and start saying maybe it's this and that etc, which is doubly unhelpful.
I heard because he doesn't like him so much Schopp , popped in and drew a line on Bensons negative test to make him think he was positive!....err pass it on
You can't just disclose someone's medical information without their consent. Whitey has already cleared this up, I'm not sure why people are still complaining about it. The whole jab stuff is a private matter in my eyes too, but I'm a nurse so maybe I see things differently.
I agree. I'm saying it doesn't help at present that people feel they can be so intrusive regarding people's health information. As a club however they could have just said 'Benson won't be a part of the matchday squad due to illness', but as I said previously I'm personally not desperate to know the reason. It's probably more helpful to have some inkling though to prevent the rumours flying in future. People arent exactly demanding to know the specifics, just the vague reason that doesn't involve potentially dead relatives or Benson/Schopp wanting to get in the ring for 12 rounds.
I think the problem is more the Twitter generation (mentioning no names) wanting to know every last thing rather than anything bad from the club. People just need to chill out and be patient.
It's saying you've got covid. It's no big deal or it shouldn't be. Nobody has died, nobody is dying, nobody has been sent to rehab, nobody has an addiction, nobody has cancer etc. Those are big deals where privacy you would expect it. Saying he's missing because of covid nobody would have batted an eyelid, people would have wished him all the best and rumours wouldn't have been started.
Didn't even to say anything about Covid. Just say out with illness. But, it's been nipped in the bud within 2 or 3 days. Will never understand the thinking behind people that start these rumours, either to wind people up, or undermine people in the club, or both. Then claim to be supporters.
This should be the walkout music for a few matches, with Schopp waving a lighter in the air - a bit of sh*thousery from the club, and a rallying cry at the same time
It is still someone's health record!!! I've had IBS in the past - isn't life threatening- doesn't mean my employer or GP can broadcast it to everyone without my consent!! Whitey has already explained it was a consent thing. It isn't difficult. They've now told everyone it was due to Covid. No secrets, just waiting for the ok to release that info. Chill out!!
