Faith No More. No two albums were ever the same, phenomenal on stage and they influenced more bands in the 90s than you could shake a stick at (Angel Dust was voted most influential album of all time).
May I add The Carpenters. Having thought about the thread title. More of a solo artiste but classed as a band. For all my different tastes in music. Karen Carpenter is THE VOICE off all time and can listen to her all day.
I’m gonna add The Red Hot Chili Peppers because they’re probably my favourite band. I’m also gonna add Coldplay just to annoy people. Also adding: Genesis The Eagles AC/DC Foo Fighters Nirvana Soundgarden (Chris Cornell though!) Linkin Park Architects System of a down All could be classed as the “greatest” band in their own right for different reasons!
‘Ladies and gentlemen put your hands together for Paul, Bruce and Rick - The Jam’ No one comes close other than the Kinks.
first real love was the police then overtaken by the jam as my all time and all the while in the back ground Queen buzzing away
Springsteen's E Street Band - never play the same set when they're on tour and Bruce will often throw a curve ball at them with a song they either haven't played in years or have never played before.
The best band is a tricky one. Lots would say Beatles, Stones, Nirvana…… Take That! Music is all about personal taste. I’m into all sorts of music from one extreme to another. AC/DC Iron Maiden Dire Straits Jethro Tull New Order The Cure Aerosmith, to name but a few. And I have a guilty pleasure about Bananarama! I don’t think you can have a ‘Best Band’ What do you base the title on? Sales, No1s, tour revenue or years active?
The Strolling Bones ... obviously & undoubtedly Honourable mentions yo: The Feelgoods (Lee Brilleaux era) Gary Moore (RIP) Nine Below Zero The Pretenders The Who
There are bands & music we all love, in our own way. Then they are truly great bands. Who stuck it out as pals, had musical chemistry & did great work. I’m a total Beatles bore, though do agree about Queen, not being a particularly big fan. Personally I’d add the Clash, Replacements, Ramones, Kinks, Rolling Stones, Smiths Pavement. what do I know?
The ‘greatest band’ question is easy, it’s The Beatles. There’s no discussion to be had, they’re objectively the greatest. Subjectively greatest bands are a different kettle of fish. Up to being 10 - the Beatles, the Shadows From then; the Who, led zeppelin, the Clash, the Jam. At 20 it was u2 for years, with an honourable mention for the Style Council. From 35 to now it’s PW but he’s not a ‘band’ (though he has one) so I’d have to say The Beatles with an honourable mention for Skunk Anansie.
I would back (and impossible to split) The Jam and The Clash - both immense, talented and ground breaking for my generation. But an honourable mention to Abba who manage to be a lot of people's guilty pleasure and probably wrote the most perfect pop songs we have ever listened to. My personal all time favourite band is The Men They Couldn't Hang - every album still sounds as fresh now as when I first heard it. Opinions eh, everyones got one.
