Seconded. Use to go there once a week when I worked at the hospital. Is it still run by the same couple? Always good for a natter if they were waiting for stuff to fry. And definitely the best fish I've had.

Use it regulary, most of the time it’s cooked fresh for you, nice friendly chap and proper chips, fish are decent sized and have a choice of curry sauce, always a bonus for me is he takes card without a fee, good for me as I never have cash on me

I don't think there are, because there are no fish and chip restaurants in Barnsley (folk too tight to pay extra to sit down?).

Nearest restaurants will be Holmfirth, Newmillerdam, Parkgate, Conisbrough probably.

Then there's the Wetherby Whaler and Whitby's chains, not too far away.

Have tried Sea Fish in Conisbrough and Marina in Parkgate, both good, not tried the Holmfirth/ Newmillerdam ones.

That would mean pescatarians, Muslims and Hindus wouldn't be able to eat them, thus reducing the potential customer base somewhat.

MY personal favourite is Inghams at Filey, nearer is Murgatroyds near Leeds Bradford airport and, as already mentioned Wetherby Whaler, but neither are quite as good.

Had our tea from there tonight. Spot on and so cheap. Portions are small but prices are tiny. Fish n chips, chips and 2 small battered sausage, 2 portions of mushy peas and 1 buttered teacake - £6. Spot on! Lovely old couple too.

Lived in Blackpool in early years. Beef dripping is deffo not just a Yorkshire thing. ALL the chippies in Blackpool certainly used BD back then . Vegetable frying Oils came along much later and but the problem is it is an artificial product and turns out to be bad for you after several fryings. It 'lasts longer' according to some chippies I have talked to and easier to handle since it does not solidify. Beef dripping though, adds that old fashioned F&C flavour and also cooks at a higher temperature so batter and chips tend to be crisper. However it is a 'Heart attack on a plate'!. The two restaurants I posted on this thread both use Beef dripping. I believe Woodys does as well although I've never been.

As regards frozen fish: Haddock or Cod?? I prefer Haddock as the flavour lasts a bit longer although very fresh cod is great. Deep sea haddock and Icelandic cod all tends to be frozen on factory ships (processed and frozen immediately). Fresh fish, ironically, is often less so since if a trawler boat is out two or three days the first days catches are chilled in ice and then sold at market so by the time they are sold/fried they may be three four or even 5 days old. Freezing fish using domestic/conventional freezers is not the same as when it defrosts lots of the water comes out and the fish is fibrous and dry when cooked.

Best one used to be a small place on Warren Quarry Lane in the late 90’s early 00’s. Nowhere came close.

Now i’d say the one down worsbrough high street. Must try this YPas, does anyone have a postcode for it?

Colin White's on New Road, Staincross is decent. Better than Aqua Fish Bar in Mapp imo. Y-Pas at Kex is ok too.
