Aylott wasn't signed until after the 7-0 drubbing at Reading at xmas. if I remember rightly. He was a spectator that day. Then signed either on that day or a day or so later. I remember thinking he's gone home thinking what have I let myself on for lol.
Or have I dreamed it up. Over to you statisticians.

Shotton and Dickinson were a good couple of loan signings at the start of Robins’ tenure, helped turn our fortunes around.

    Aylott came in July 79

I think you are thinking of his partner in crime Derrick Parker who came in the new year

Yeah Aylott definitely signed in summer of 79 along with Glavin.
I believe their first league game was a defeat by Wednesday

Johnny Evans and Barry Thomas as the club was going same way as Accrington Stanley , Bradford Park Avenue etc till that signing imo .
At the other end of the scale is Viv Anderson and Danny Wilson .

I remember watching us lose to Carlisle at home on a freezing night 1-0 with them two playing, worse game of football I've ever seen, it didn't feel like the start of something big then thats for sure, how wrong I was!!

Wasn't it also Allan Clarke's last as a player?

I was at that awful Reading game with my wife on our honeymoon. She was there reluctantly. We are still married.

Nope, Glavin signed in the Summer of 1979 & Aylott in the Autumn. Glain's debut came in the 2-1 defeat at Lincoln in the League Cup in August, Alott's came in the 5-2 victory over Hartlepool United (FA Cup 1st Round, November 1979). The player who signed for us on the day of our 7-0 defeat at Reading at the end of December was Ian Evans, initially on loan.
The information on that link is wrong.

Barrie Thomas was signed from Second Division Scunthorpe and was great for us until he got crocked and had to retire. He scored his 200th league goal against Halifax - I was there to see it. Johnny Evans was the perfect foil for Barrie and a bargain signing.

It was Norman Dean who came from Cardiff. Another class forward.
