Not sure But he was only 39 at the time - what a God awful waste. He was always such a fit healthy looking bloke too. I once helped drag him away from a fight outside Japanese Whispers night club (Regent Street). Some guy (not a BFC fan fan of some other team can't remember which) had been slagging him off for ages about him being crap and dirty. He took it and took it and then snapped. Police got hold of him and a van pulled up. Policeman didn't know who he was - I tried to explain and in the end they let him go rather than have the embarrasment of him being arrested. Chatted to him after he had calmed down he was a thoroughly decent bloke. Rest in peace Steve.
I make YOU laugh??? You should hear Crystal when I walk into the bedroom naked!! She calls me her little button mushroom!!! I feel it's my duty to embarrass Laura as much as I can.
Nobody better than thee & me We know everything and refuse to admit we're ever wrong, even when we are!!
Well that's wrong for a start As most people on here know you are always right and I am always wrong Anyway name me 3 teams that Dave Regis scored against for us. Bet that will stump ya!
RE: Not sure I remember one season we played Sheffield United in the cup. John Gannon was a real dirty player and had constantly been niggling away at Steve. When it was the replay at Oakwell the ref blew the whistle for kick off and Gannon was on the floor. Steve had knocked him one while the ref wasn't looking!
Think I remember that too Was that when we had 2 replays before Tony Agana eventually scored at Oakwell to knock us out? Another funny thing I remember (you will be too young) is Ian Banks getting sent off before he had come onto the field. He was warming up as sub and got involved with a linesman moaning about a decision I think. Finished up getting sent off. Also Mick McCarthy away at Gillingham (probably still before your time). They kicked off, passed the ball black and punted it upfield. Mick and their guy went up for it and Mick flattened him. Straight red after about 10 seconds
RE: Think I remember that too Yes that's the right game. I did see Ian Banks play but unfortunately it was the 2nd time round. I started going about 1984/85 it was the year i started high school
Oh no it wasn't I though he only ever scored one goal for us?????? Who did he miss against when the ball was 0.001mm from being over the line, he was standing next to it and there was no defender or goalkeeper within 73 miles? He made a valiant attempt to connect with it and managed to put it just past the wrong side of the post.
I remember the replica kit the 2nd time The shorts came in 4 sizes: - Small, Medium, Large and Ian Banks. Bloody hell 84/85 you are a spring chicken aren't you. You are taking a real chance talking to old perverts like JLWBL and myself Anyway you seem to be a true supporter so don't lose the faith we are staying up. And before you ask I couldn't care less who is going down it is between 3 teams - Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield Wednesday. Me and Kev often go in our local Indian and one of the owners is a SW fan. Can you imagine the fun we will have that night if the worst (i.e. best!) does happen? It will be carnage.
That's it Thanks couldn't remember. Worst miss I've ever seen by a Barnsley player (yes including THAT miss a couple of weeks ago).
