Good performance after the change but the decision not to play Winnall baffles me. He's one of our best players - when you don't play your best players, you don't play well I thought we were all over the place the first half hour.

The real challenge for us will be when a **** side turn up not interested in playing - that's when we struggle & that's where our improvement must come from.

Agree with all of this apart from the fact from my view in the West it was never a penalty.

Whether it was a penalty or not there seems to be a comparison to draw between Watkins through on goal and Winnall.

    Control and pace.

Which is why, as he explained post match, LJ picked Watkins to start.

I,d back Winnall every time going through on goal rather than Watkins SAMs a far better finisher.

Winnall would stroll into any team in this league. Only Bradshaw at Wallsall is better than him. It puzzles me that a manager can't spot who the better players are. We improved immeasuraeably when Watkins returned to us wing. I'd fancy a bet with anyone who thinks Watkins will score more goals than Winnall (unless as seems likely he isn't picked)

And you use today as your evidence.

Winnall may be a better shooter. S'abart it.

    Ok, here you go.

The two are completely incomparable - Watkins was put through 1v1 with time & space, enough to take an age to make up his mind. Sam had a man or two on his shoulder all the way, running at full pelt & took a heavy touch. Watch Watkins miss v S****horpe & tell me he's a better finisher.

And he wasn't started because he's a better finisher but because he's quicker. Sam's 10 x the striker Watkins is just like Watkins is 10 x the winger Sam is. Put them in their proper positions and they're good players.

We improved immeasurably when Williams went off.

Your value of Winnall is only your opinion.

I see why it puzzles you that people do not share your opinion. But you must overcome this.

10 quid bet for charity who scores more goals when played as a central striker put your money where your loud mouth is?

I agree. We improved immeasurably when Winnall & Watkins played in their proper positions.

Over the decades I've spent down at Oakwell, I think I've seen more Barnsley strikers miss when presented with the same sort of chance Watkins had than score. I'm dead chuffed for the lad, as I believe he's received unwarranted criticism before he's had the chance to settle down and show us what he can do.

    Personal abuse?

I am happy to take your bet but how you propose to monitor this when we play all over the country and seem to regularly switch both players roles I do not know.

Perhaps we should use your more favourite criteria - us against how we did against each team last season - and I'll go we do better head to head for a tenner.

Nope take the bet or not. No wriggling. 3 for Winnall 1 for Watkins thus far. He may catch up who knows. After today's experiment I can't see Watkins getting too many more chances.

Given the money is for charity anyone else want to get in on the bet I'm sure Mr threadstopper has the courage of his convictions. If 20 of us take the bet with him that's 200 quid for charity.

I go to pretty much every game so can feedback for you.

Agree entirely. I wasn't knocking his goal at all, took it really well.

Your bet boils down basically to who scores more goals.

I will take it if you take mine.

No it boils down to who scores more goals when played as a central striker. No attempts at deflection or changing the subject. I'm sure the Syrian migrants that I will donate your money to will enjoy it. Your opinion earlier was that Watkins is a better central striker than Winnall either put up or shut up.
