Best player ever to come out of our Academy. Still saying Butterfield. You then changed it to best youth player, and I'm saying Tommy Taylor. I'm right on both counts. End of thread.
It looks like I was a bit slack defining the parameters of this discussion. Too late now, kill each other!!!
Mick McCarthy Excellent footballer, top manager, first class pundit, brilliant bloke. It's not often your childhood hero turns out to be your hero as an adult for completely different reasons. Love hearing someone speaking so intelligently in the Barnsley accent. As a centre half I haven't seen better. Both for Barnsley and for the Republic of Ireland where he played against some of the best players in the world and often came out on top.
Adam Oldham. Reight academy defender, solid for the reserves, but never got a chance in our first team despite our defence at the time not being upto much.
What about these two? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Christie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Mulligan
Butterfield an academy product but only from aged 16 when Man U released him. Rose Stones Digby Clark and RNL all been at BFC since they were 9 or 10. In my book thats a home grown academy player.
So what DO you mean? Just a few suggestions from both Youth system:- Tommy Taylor, Arthur Kaye, Eric Winstanley, Pat Howard, Mick McCarthy, David Hirst. Academy:- Antony Kay, Neil Austin, Rory Fallon, Scott Flinders, Jacob Butterfield, John Stones.
Got to be big mick from my lifetime. Taylor is the obvious standout player from all-time. From the Academy (as it is now) I would have to say Butterfield, but Stones and the current crop will surpass him IMO.
