What about the infamous Keith Brown? He could play left back and centre half. Apparently.

    Ahh I see .my mistake.

He may not have been classed as Scottish but I'm sure he was from there.

Anybody remember Jermaine McSporran? Dint play for us like, but what a Scottish surname that was.

Be like a Sheffielder being called Jimmy Swine.

Can't believe everyone has missed Jimmy Baxter- shocking omission.

Can't believe you missed out the great Bob Williamson in goal. He was a Scot from the 60s

As I said earlier in the thread, old mate, I've only selected players I've actually seen play. Truth be told, I think I should've selected Kenny Burns, moved Neil Cooper to right back and dropped John McPhee. I was picking McPhee out of position anyway.

Gary Oconnor as well - although does he rank in the best or worst?

Had one decent game for us i think.

Yes John was a decent centre half despite his lack of size

Actually, mate, John was a midfielder. We signed him from Blackpool in the Summer of 1970. He was let go to Southport later that season and became their captain, leading them to the Fourth Division title in 1972/73.

I may be wrong but I thought he appeared at centre half as well. Just like now with players out of position someimes

He played on the right hand hand side of midfield. What us old codgers would call Right Half. I remember him scoring a penalty against Aston Villa in a 1-1 draw, early in the season.

Yes I just about remember him having the number four shirt. You've got me intrigued now and I want to check my old scrap books and programmes but I'm at my house in Bircotes while most if my stuff is at my flat in Harrogate and I won't be there for a few days. I missed a good deal of that 70-71 season coz I joined the RAF that September so didn't get home too often.

That Villa game was the first match where I saw violence at Oakwell on the terraces.

I missed that one so couldn't comment but I remember the Villa game the following season. It was their second season at Third Division level and they probably won the league by some distance but they certainly gave us a spanking at Oakwell. Andy Lochhead bagged a hat trick if I remember rightly and they won 4-0.
I stupidly hitch hiked up for the match from Cosford near Wolverhampton (it was a night match as well!) and did the same to get back to camp (probably back about 2am). These were the days when it was common to see servicemen standing at motorway junctions hitch hiking in uniform. Good days, and I never failed to get where I needed to be. Was just so easy! I was glad when I got my own car though...
