Can't remember if it was discussed on here but isn't he very, very distantly related to Matthew Flinders, the 18th century navigator who sailed round, and mapped, Australia?

Can somebody that left the club 19 years ago have a ‘deep understanding of the club’?

YT, it’s Interesting that you recognised the name. Do you follow weightlifting? It doesn't appear he was coaching at elite level. If so how do you feel his knowledge/credentials will transfer into professional football?

I’ve a relative in the field. I’ve definitely heard the name. I hope the club do an interview with him and we get to find out.

As for transferring skills across, I’ve really no idea pal. The lads in the role that I knew over the years, from Winder through to Cook were all football based.

I know one thing though. You can put together all the programmes you want, really top level stuff. But it’s down to the individual (the player) at the end of the day. It’s why I think your spreadsheets and data sets while useful, they don’t tell you much about a player’s attitude. Recruitment is key. Good minds.

Isn’t the Flinders Range of mountains in Australia named after him (Matthew not Scott).
