Hindsight is a wonderful thing but looking at it we got the pricing wrong, probably a perfect chance for kids to go for £1 and £10/£12 might have put a few more thousand on the gate possibly.
I dont think fans who dont go should get slagged off whether they live in Texas or town. There's a deep disillusionment with football in general and Barnsley in particular. A second round cup tie played by a team with no strikers of merit and a disjointed defence against a side which SHOULD tonk them on paper for nearly 20 quid is not overly tempting. Fans will gradually start coming back when things improve and there's hope, expectation and potential excitement. I'll be listening on the wireless.
It's usually Carl Asaba who does the Co comms on United games and to be fair, he's usually quite balanced. He's certainly one of the better ex players they've had on there.
Until 5 or 6 years ago I wouldn't have missed a match like tonight's for anything, sadly I just find all too difficult to be enthusiastic about watching a retail outfit for footballers pretending to be a football club. Chances are we are likely to get well beaten tonight and sitting there watching the blunt hordes bouncing about makes it even less appealing. Sadly the days of battling Barnsley fearing nobody are but a dim and distant memory replaced by soft touch Barnsley (the head coaches description not mine BTW). So tonight it's a no from me and I'm not sure I've even got the stomach to watch it on Sky.
Its sad but also concerning isn't it? I would have gone to this myself till just a few years ago. Its Sheff Utd ffs!! I need something to re-energise me and give me my mojo back. Its the club that's got to do the re-energising for me not me magically re-energising myself.
Great description that. I kind of feel the same these days. There's nowt to get emotionally attached to anymore.
