    • Some are being housed here
    • Some are trafficked
    • Some have been granted asylum
    • Many don't have the strength or resources to make the journey
    • Many of them are lying on the bottom of the ocean ... much to our shame.

Well first off, most of this country's wealth is founded on the natural resources of the asylum seekers home countries.
But if it is just an issue of money, and not the colour of their skin, then I guess you'd be okay with allowing them to work whilst the applications are processed?

The thing that disturbs me is the fact that some people have no compassion for other human beings. Its quite apparent. The people living on the barge/home/prison/hostel/****-tip (call it what you like) are human beings. So regardless of personal views about rates of immigration and inadequacies of the processing system suggesting people should not be allowed support and basic health conditions implies to me that some on this board are just not very nice people. The people housed have come a long distance, some have experienced awful conditions already. Some have left family behind. Some have been abused financially, emotionally and sexually. Yet, I'm spite of this and in spite of other issues which are affecting millions of people in this country already the focus for some is to hit out at these people as though they are the biggest problem in society.
It really is sad that peoples' hatred/anger gets turned towards this sort of thing. I do wish people would look at the big picture instead of adopting a knee jerk response and ending up wishing that human beings shouldn't be treated as such.

You share as much as you want to, mate.? I think I know whereabouts you coming from. Not exactly. But, for example, I went to school with kids of different, unusual surnames. Hard to spell or pronounce correctly. Second generation war veterans. Either came to work coal & steel or fought directly. Maybe Jewish migrant? I don’t know & don’t care. My grandad was ground crew at RAF Conningsbry. He was a fueller.
I’m not sure if Hurricanes flew out of that base? But my Dad told me about Polish pilots desperately trying to get into the air, to fight the Luftwaffe, disobeying commands.

they don’t get preferential treatment. They have no recourse to govt funds. The Govt chooses to prevent them working. Other than that spot on.

I find it difficult to read threads like this without feeling complete and utter abject sadness. Speechless at the lack of compassion for fellow humans. Utterly speechless.

Fortunately the handful of neanderthals are largely outnumbered by those with at least a modicum of compassion.

Try googling how many people disappear each year in the UK (presumably not using public services, dentists, NHS, schools...) and how many people arrive in small boats each year. Then just consider how much government time and public interest the two groups get.
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (I mean UK)

Thank you Mr C. You’re on the right lines but not quite right. You have given me an idea though but I’m off to Flamborough for a week tomorrow. First things first.

The old man’s no longer with us but if he read this thread, I know exactly what he’d do. He’d take it all in, shake his head and say nothing. Unlike us, he didn’t have to deal with fear and hatred on a bulletin board. He saw what it does in real life. And that’s why he quietly brought his children up to know right from wrong and be aware of those who spread hatred and fear.
