Not in the slightest if I remember correctly. Viv wasn't cut out to manage. And on a couple of occasions when I went to watch training, (turned up for academy games which had been cancelled) it was quite clear who dealt with any issues. Danny,. Player coach. Coming off the training pitch with his arm in bandage or pot. Was stumpy, and I heard him say to viv. Do I have to turn up tomorrow boss, obviously not in contention to play. (game day). VIv says to Danny you tell em mate. Danny says to stumpy and all those in earshot. " In tomorrow lads. all of yer" Stumpy's face was a picture. What me n'all Danny,? yes that includes you. Peter Shilton once said, If anyone is not cut out to manage its Viv Anderson. He's too nice a bloke. Edit just seen Jay's response.
The person he’s replacing just got the QPR gig. If he does well with Gerard at Villa, potentially then follows him to Liverpool or England, or even doesn’t and wants to return to management, he’s in a better position to land a job as big, if not bigger, than QPR than if he applied right now. I’d say that was improving his job prospects. Especially with the potential of coaching your national team.
