I think the comments made by Original Ponty Ender and yourself say more about you then anything else. And no, I don't watch it, but it doesn't offend me that others do. ffs.
they say more about both of you. Admittedly it wasn't worded particularly well, so my apologies if you were too confused to understand. But simply because a programme doesn't appeal to you, doesn't make everyone that watches it brain dead tossers. I think the people that make comments that are so judgemental are the pricks to be fair.
Well said. The amount of people that feel threatened by it is remarkable, there's loads of tv shows I don't like but I don't go round calling the viewers names. Maybe it shows how sucessful the show has been, after 10 years it can still cause all this fuss. Long live BB
I think the thing that rattles a lot of cages about Big Brother is that... ...it has finally been proven that a generation of people will actually sit and watch nothing on the television. It's less than a soap opera. People will actually sit and watch other people sitting and doing nothing, incase they do something. It's so post-modern it's incredible. The only thing that stops it becoming people watching people watching television is the fact that they're not allowed telly in the BB house. Otherwise that is exactly what it would be. So they throw in some people they know will antagonise each other, some strange eccentric individuals that are just a curiosity factor and then invite a nation to stew it's brains just watching it happen (or not happen as the case may be). They then have a vote off system just to check that people are still interested. The other problem with BB is that it asks you to invest bloody hours in it. It's sounds like the perfect alternative to finding and living a genuinely interesting life of your own. If you want to watch it - please do crack on. But I can understand why other people don't regard it very highly. Personally I'd be glad to welcome back an era of television where you get a bit more out of it - some better documentaries, some new drama, a bit more comedy. Trouble is, there are too many channels on TV now, and it's going to the lowest common denominator. Sorry if that's judgemental.
Yes, a joke. And given your normal efforts in that direction I'm not surprised you didn't recognise one.
The interesting thing about many people that slag off Big Brother and it's viewers repeatedly, will then be talking about the Apprentice as if it has anything different to offer. I agree that broadcasting is saturated with reality shows that aren't worth the air time, but it's not for me to judge the people that enjoy them. I'm sure the backgroud of its viewers covers a broad range of the intellectual scale.
I would class people who watch that tripe as voyeurs. It is similar to looking through keyholes, etc.
