Big jump again today to 562 deaths

Exactly before Boris did his lockdown shops were already shutting and people were already shunning places to shop. For different reasons I know a few people who by two weeks ago had already done around a week and a half.

According to new figures released today, the deaths for March were up to 80% underreported. The true death rate is much higher even than the ~5000 reported to have died



It also appears that deaths are ~1,000 per week higher than the average for this week of the last 5 years and ~500 higher than the previous week.

 

And for comparison, until recently the cumulative death rate for 2020 was lower than the 5-yearly average.

 

Scottish deaths huge jump today due to delay over weekend in recording. If rest of UK under 1000 we'll have done well. Fingers crossed.

Trouble is we've got the bank holiday coming too right in the middle of decision time - we're going to get 4 days of hooky numbers just to add to the confusion.

Less than I thought which is a good thing. The only worry I have is these are just hospital deaths. How many folk have died at home with it? Registering a death at this time I'm sure is quite difficult due to the lockdown and backlog.

I hope no one as died at home with it as it's a pneumonia like virus and if someone does get it badly the medical equipment they need to give them the best chance is at a hospital.

So today’s figures aren’t the actual deaths in the last 24 hours, but those collected since yesterday, and if you shift the graph 3 days it’s basically just lag. Which means we will be over reporting deaths on the way down the curve in a similar fashion.

The highest number yet, and somehow with 17 deaths in Yorkshire it's our lowest amount for 11 days.....

So basically, the number of people that died in the UK from COVID is roughly 2-3000 higher than the numbers currently published (6159), so somewhere in the region of 8-10,000.

 

Is there a figure for deaths in Barnsley?
