Yes, well see. He didn't bring a team into Oakwell & I suspect he may see the value in working with existing back room staff. If he doesn't like working with them he may make a change. All speculation at this stage.
His defeats will not be greeted as kindly as they were with us choose how many he had . That’s where his character will be tested when the pressures on . Even his mate came under a lot of criticism at Norwich last year and look how well they did .
Lovely words there from Big Val. Worked wonders for us the last few months, just a shame the nature of football is the way it is. Thanks for the memories VI
They should be, I think he'll take them back up, probably as champions. I'm happy he's improved us in a lot of ways & we have £2 million to come in for new contracts, possibly Mowatt to stay, who knows?
I think the likelihood of Mowatt staying has just reduced considerably JP. In Sawyers and Livermore WBA have an old'ish central midfield and will struggle to adapt to pressing. Mowatt's work rate and quality and familiarity with the style will make him attractive. And the fact that he's out of contract even more so. It'd be a massive coup now if we can persuade him to stay imo. I'll be very surprised if he does. Delighted but surprised.
If so, we have the ideal replacement in Styles. It would be a loss, but I'm sure we'll do what we can to keep Mowatt. We have a business model that is working, so people moving on, albeit in this case on a free at the end of their contract, after getting us in the playoffs, is part of the plan. You can't force players to sign new contracts. Moon is on a new deal & so the conveyor belt starts up...
Agree completely. On Styles, I hope that we're preparing for an approach and that his price has just gone up by £5m.
He has to go for top dollar when he leaves & he will leave, hopefully to a top flight club, as he is good enough. No more Pinnock debacles, I think they have learned from that one.
It must have been pure luck, or at least good fortune on the club's part. Cos VI wasn't first choice for the job. Remember how long it took.. According to the Yorkshire Post Marcel Rapp turned the job down before Val was offered it
Not for me, unless there's something else in his locker we didn't get to see. He had a squad here already used to a pressing game, adapted it to fit his 'vertical' style and ultimately fell short as opponents sussed out how limited it was. With the right players? Possibly scrape the playoffs, but not for me. 10th at best.
Sorry, disagree. We lacked that bit of quality in the final third vs Swansea. Can't see how VI could have changed that. We overachieved to some extent getting there & for me that was amazing in itself. It's weird football fans memories seem to not even go back 12 months. Agree to disagree.
JOSEPH LAUMANN Joining the Reds in October of 2020 alongside Head Coach, Valérien Ismaël, Morrocan born Joseph Laumann became part of the Barnsley FC first team staff. A former player in his native Germany, 'Joe' was added to the coaching team to assist Ismaël as the Reds looked to kick on in 20/21.
