Biggest crowd you've been in at Oakwell?

Everton game for me as well.

 

Same for me. I was at college in Leicester at time. I came up with a couple of mates from the pub I used to hang out in at the time for a quick roundtrip.
One was a big Chelsea fan, but he was up for the game. The other one had a car, so he was obviously invited.

 

I was in the St John Ambulance dugout for the Man City and Liverpool games, so it will be the Everton game for me

 

I was there but it was 15th February 1964. The then record receipts of over £9000 kept the club alive. for a while.

Joe Richards decided to sell the tickets at the previous home game producing an attendance in excess of 17000.

Sadly, Phil Thompson’s career ended that night. A tackle from Colin Walker, who I think scored too.? Papers made a lot of him being a former bin man..

 

I'm sure there was more than 2,008 there.

 

Don't know what the attendances were but there wasn't room to swing a cat at these fa cup matches I went to when I was a nipper.

Yes you’re right - one year out! I was in that 17,000 crowd as well against Wrexham. Thousands of MU fans there as well, supporting us! Bizarre day.

 

Wasn't at the Man City game, a disappointment I still haven't resolved, and never will. I was at the Liverpool game in the next round, but there was only 29,000+ there. I was there for the the Everton game, the only 30,000+ attendance I've ever seen at Oakwell.

I still dream about Banks crossing to Aylott who nodded home. The only game at Oakwell I didn't go to that season. I'm still furious. 15,000 people from Barnsley went to that Man City game who hadn't been to another match that year. I'd been to them all and I wasn't allowed to go. And I didn't get a ticket for the Howard winner at Anfield either. Fck the world.

 

The Everton game in 89 was my first ever game and the biggest at Oakwell ironically won’t be beaten in my lifetime I’d assume

 

Manchester United 1964 Think it was George Bests first F.A. cup game.

 

I was there. Because with no floodlights cup replays were mid week afternoons. Holgate gave us a half day holiday to go. That figure of 39250 was the official attendance. Unofficially there were some estimates that it was circa 43000. It was memorable for Gordon Banks dragging Ken Oliver’s header from over the goal line. We was robbed.

 

I remember being in the corner of the ponty/brewery stand and we were packed in like sardines ' it was the Stoke fa cup game in 89 where we saw steve coopers somersault' terrific night.

 

Like "George Kerr", the 39250 v Leicester in the 1961 6th round replay. He may well be right about the true attendance. I was in the 1st form at Holgate and consequently also got the half day off. I was in the Paddock/Brewery Stand, down by the wall. Many fans turned up too late and didn't get in. I'm sure most of the teachers at Holgate wanted to go to the match and that, combined with the fact that it would have presented the head, Sag, with the problem of disciplining hundreds of boys for skiving off school, precipitated the half-day holiday.

 

Been going since 1965/6 and no idea tbh. But I seem to remember a fair few against the blunts in both cup replays at t'well 1990. 30k+.happened several times. Could barely move on the terrace. (Front of west stand)
