OK Dreamboy. Look I'm no expert. I leave all that to the politicians and other experts in their fields. Like yourself I have listened to both sides of the argiuement and on the evidence put forward have made my decision to vote YES. Your points. 1 Currency. That my friend has been answered. It will be the pound. This at last has been admitted by Darling and the No campaign and their campaign of lies. Quite embarrassing really, to treat a nation as if they were uneducated and to come out whit egg on their faces. 2 Border controls. Why would there be any? Is it not possible to drive from Belfast (UK) to Dublin ( Eire) with any such border controls. Just another piece of nonsense by the no's. Again embarrassing. 3 No one quite knows how we will fare. I could all go wrong but equally it could go very well indeed. Time will tell. TBH I happier to give it a go rather than being systematically rogered by those in Westminster ATM. Think you have been listening to those very honourable types Cameron and Osbourne too long. Waken up to the bigger picture. Dreamboy as you said you hope Scotland remains as part of the UK so maybe there is just a wee bit of wishful thinking in your post.
Because as a union we are stronger than two separate countries particularly when you consider the economies of scale
Fekin scrounging tossers. They should pay bedroom tax IMO gthen they won't have owt to come with all they're bedrooms
Ian, just let me say that if I was Scots I would be voting for independence, if only to try and build a more fair, dare I say, socialist country, BUT, what I don't understand about the currency thing is, why, if you want independence do you want a currency union with another country, ok, you can call it what you want, nobody can stop you doing that, but to tie it to our currency will mean that large parts of your economic system will be run by the bank of england which we all know only exists to enrich the establishment at the expense of the rest of us. If your new country is going to be as rich and successful as fat alex says and we are going to suffer as a concequence then surely you wouldn't want to be tied to us. Personally I don't understand all the ramifications of a currency union, it may or may not make sense. To me, independence means you are on your own, no if's no but's, reliant only on yourselves or have I misunderstood and got it wrong?
Jesus H F'in Christ, are you seriously saying we'd be better off as a republic? We have got something unique in our royal family, so they've got more cash than me, big whoop, I don't care. I'm content with what I've got. They bring in FAR more than they cost, and they are part of our national identity. god save the Queen.
T'owd, me and you both. I also do not understand all the ins and outs of this currency debate but more knowledgeable and better informed people seem to think that what Scotland wants is a creditable way forward. At this time England/UK Govt seem to just be being awkward over it but it seems once independence is achieved there will be a lot of backtracking by Cameron and co. Obviously a split from England will not happen on the morning of Sept 19. There is going to be around an 18 month transition period in which a lot of things have to be bargained out. I talk about Englands huge expence of Trident having to be moved. This alone will cost England Billions, not millions but Billions. Oil and Gas reserves will be shared out. Our share of UKs debt would have to be settled. So a joined currency which has been agreed is possible will be put into force. Otherwise I believe Scotland could default on all debt, play hard ball over gas and oil and TBH England might just not cope. So common sense will suggest that a working together will be the way ahead if unrest is to be avoided in what is left of the UK. I'd say Cameron is up **** creek over this. And as for Milliband and so called Labour. Well they should all be kicked out as they have IMO betrayed the Labour cause. Looks like years of right wing Tory rule ahead for you guys as Labour have let the working classes down. All very sad.
I honestly think the whole scottish independence thing will go through,i think the Scottish folk have had enough of Westminster and all the destruction and deindustrialisation that the tories and labour oversaw, their communities were destroyed for ever much like vast areas of the north of England,if this vote had come in 1997 after the tories 18 years it would have been a piece of cake for the yes vote.Even now, after 13 years of labour many have had enough, these last 4 years of the tories have been the icing on that cake for many. The Scottish nationalists have made great strides north of the border, gaining votes on the back of a push for independence,i honestly think after the vote our union will be history.. whether or not it will be a good thing remains to be seen, but if theres ever a WW3 you will be beggin for that English trident to defend you.
I understand all the differing facts above but what I am saying is that a currency union would mean that you wouldn't be 100% independent as all currency decisions would be made by the powers that be in the city, they may allow some representation from north of the boarder but when push comes to shove the city will come down on the side of england. I don't get it. Like I said above, I would vote for independence but that is what I would want, total independence, not still having some decisions made in the city of london.
Yeah I'm with you about not understanding it. But TBH Scotland would not be unique in using a "foreign" currency. There are plenty instances of countries pegging their currency to an other countries currency. TBH it really is 1 step beyond for me. I'm only looking forward to never being ruled by a Tory govt again.
That's ok - this morning on BBC News channel they interrupted a speech at the TUC conference on how the rich were getting richer and the poor left behind to cover this breaking news! I was ok with the story being on the news but then they brought in their royal correspondent! Sod knows why (mainly cause I then turned it off to go to Lidl!) but really there couldn't have been much for him to say!
It hurts my head trying to understand it, lol. If the yes vote wins what do you think the outcome of first general election will be. Personally I think the snp will be almost wiped out because they really aren't socialist party and I think, by listening to you and others, that a socialist party is what you want. Will you also seek to remove liz and her bunch of scroungers as the head of state. This is a good read, http://socialistpartyscotland.org.uk/2014/09/08/10-days-can-shake-british-capitalism-foundations/
The national debt is over a trillion pounds. Scotland won't be walking away from 1,000 billion plus of debt. Our Trident bill, when stacked next to the national debt is ridiculously small. You guys want to trade the cost of your Trident contribution, for your percentage of the national debt? Ha ha ha I'd take your hand off. The idea of Scotland starting out by defaulting on all debts (declaring immediate bankruptcy or simple refusal to pay bills?) - you'll be doing business with tin pot countries or with extortionate interest fees on your loans thereafter. As for the pound - it's the British pound - you will either buy it from us and therefore shorten the supply in the market and strengthen our pound - or you will print your own and risk hyper inflation on the currency market when the value of it plummets because nobody trusts it. You are being sold a pig in a sack. Magic beans in exchange for your cow. Trust me now and I'll sort out the utopia later. I know the brave heart sentiment is ridiculously strong - and yes I hate the Tories too - but you're sleep walking into a pitfall. Final point, of course, is that there is no real independence in a modern economy. We're governed by banks and lenders. Goldmann Sachs has more of a say in this country than half the electorate. We're not in the Euro but as long as Germany, France, Italy and Spain are struggling, our economy will stagnate. What kind of independence are you being offered? You're like Caliban in The Tempest. You're celebrating freedom at the thought of a new master.
Yeah without doubt a labour/socialist govt will be returned after our general election. Tbh i will feel far more comfortable being led by the likes of Tommy Sheridan rather than Cameron. Whether I'll be any better off only time will tell. All the panicking by the Tory/labour/liberals ATM suggests to me that England might be in for a bit of a rough ride. As for Liz. The sooner she and her family are got rid of the better.
Firstly, I'd state that it is not about money rather being against the fact that just by the chance of birth that someone is automatically in a position of power and wealth without any recourse to their own abilities and skills Secondly, the argument that the bring in FAR more than they cost is an interesting one. It intimates that if we got shut that no-one would come to Britain anymore. Clearly that is absolute crap. They are not part of MY national identity and I find it rather embarrassing and perverse how retaining them makes us look....
Correct. Also IMO its not just the royals as people who I'm against its the whole rotten institution the position stands for and the whole rotten faceless Snides that are propped up by them.if all the cost of the hangers on and their hangers on was counted I'm sure the British public would be astonished
