If you're local, head for RSPB Old Moor when you can. Tree Sparrows virtually guaranteed. Also at Bempton Cliffs.
Yes, also Potteric Carr in Doncaster is worth a look. Bizarre location but good wildlife, good for murmerations.
I'm not far from you pal, have you seen the well restoration at Rockley Old Hall, it dates back to 1240
My Hummingbird Feeder arrived today for my patio. They already visit for the trees out there, but I want them to hang around a bit longer.
Agree. It is surprising how much the 'road noise' mainly tyre noise masks normally natural sounds. We live on a hill overlooking the medieval hilltop town 2km away on the other side of the valley and are surrounded by fields, an olive grove and a handful of farmhouses (our nearest neighbour is a few hundred metres away. The main road is a kilometer away and not really busy except certain times of day. Since 'lockdown' the roads have been all but deserted, On Sundays it is as if we had gone back 200 years! All we hear are birds (notably my favourite summer sounds - a blackbird in the evening and the nightingales when it is dark) distant barking of dogs, the rooster and chickens in the farm up the road, the clock chiming in the town loud and clear as well as the church bells on the Sunday (memories of my childhood in England). Every day on the half hour nearest to sunset, there is a carillon of bells in the church tower 2km away that plays a tune often drowned out by passing cars if the wind is in the wrong direction. Since lockdown it has been crystal clear every night. We have also seen more wildlife... deer, hares and, unfortunately for those people with vegetable gardens bordering the woods, wild boar. Many are waking up to find their veggie plots dug up and wrecked. All that said, as I type this, the farmers are now out this morning and the silence has been wrecked by a large Combine Harvester working in a nearby field and a few tractors driving around :-( Nevertheless,
