I know a Bradford City fan who said the same about Ashley Ward. I remember I had a calender on my desk of Barnsley legends and the month that Ashley Ward was on he couldn't stand having to come to my desk!
Haha, I never noticed your error, but reading back that is so funny! Imagine all the players in your squad voting an ex-teammate your worst ever player! PMSL!
The only Sheff United match I can recall seeing that didn't involve Barnsley over recent years was their play-off final against Huddersfield. I watched it with a couple of Blades fans in a bar in a place called Tossa (apt perhaps!) in Spain. I can remember being shocked at how poorly both terms performed, but particularly United. I left the bar very quickly and quietly when they lost the penalty shoot-out !! No-one will be more delighted than me if the Blades fan referred to on my OP is simply blinded by prejudice, and that we are about to be well and truly entertained. Just have to wait and see.
We will have to wait and see next year. I have always thought that Wilson was an advocator of good passing football. My worst nightmare is if we play like we have this year, hoof, hoof. The support will be well down if the type of play does not alter.
I watched most of sheff utds tv games under Danny and they were a long ball side. I was expecting to watch a Sheffield united that passed the Ball seeing as Danny was the manager. One of the Main questions I asked people when Danny took the reigns again was would he play passing football again? With the players we have had this season I can understand why we have had to be more direct but I've got a feeling we will be in for more hoof it football next season despite new personnel coming in. I hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see us play the Wilson way we know and loved
This was exactly the reason i didn't want him in the first place. MOST supporters are expecting us to emulate the fast free flowing football Wilson previously got us playing some 16 years ago, this season and more so next season.
This is a results driven business. Danny clearly felt that he didn't have the players at his disposal at United to play attractive football. He saw them as a lump it and hope team, which they'd been for years. The fans/board expected instant promotion, and Danny nearly delivered that. Hell, he would have done were it not for his striker being a rapist. If he'd decided to make big changes, to implement a change in direction, a more attractive style of football, with the players he had then, they'd have struggled to adapt and he'd have been out of a job. You need time, and patient owners/fans to make such changes. It's a long term thing usually. But if you've no pressure to get results, you can relax and try different things/ideas. Look at Clough now, at the Blunts. He came in and changed it up instantly. They lost a lot initially, but now they've found their feet/form and grown into the new style/shape/system. I'm sticking to my belief that Danny will recruit players this Summer who'll fit into the style/shape/system he wants. It'll take time to gel but will eventually bear fruit. I don't know for sure what that style is, but I'm hoping it's not long ball, and neither is it tippy tappy nonsense. I'd like quick, in your face, attacking, direct football. Mix it up long and short. Always pressing, always full of pace. One final thought, I think Keith gets a lot of stick on here but he tried to implement the style of football he wanted us to play. It worked almost immediately when he had the players to pull it off. But it looked bad when he didn't. He refused though to change it up. He kept them playing that system/style and it proved one of his many undoings. But the bloke believed he'd be safe from the sack. He didn't expect them to get rid after a bad run. So either they bullshitted him, or he was stupid. Maybe both. I just hope the supporters give Danny the time required. I hope for his and my sanity's sake that we're not mid table by Autumn with fans wanting yet another change. He needs time. That being said, I expect us to smash the division up anyway so not to worry eh?
Blades moaned about Wilson and the style when he was there. One of ny good mates at work is from Darlington but supports Hartlepool and says the same. Nothing wrong with his squad at the time. Started off playing decent stuff but scrapped it when Ched went down. Blunts are not just saying it to be bitter or gloat. In fact I watched play off final against Huddersfield and they were so negative. It's a long time sincr Wilson did anything in management, in fact my brother wasn't even born.
