CCTV looks everywhere ? Then it shouldn't be too hard to ID the fcuknut that threw the smoke canister into his fellow Barnsley fans. Had that been nipped in the bud early on we wouldn't have this. There seemed to me to be an unwillingness to deal with that at the time. Dyson, some of those in that corner are slightly less than angelic. Not excusing heavy handed stewarding, but there's 2 sides to all stories, and FWIW Doyle's are a country mile ahead of that lot we had from Sheffield.
Make the East Stand side of the Ponty The Singing Section. All together now..... We all follow the Barnsley!!
If our police bill is so high where were they on saturday, it was obvious the club/stewards were looking to make a point of folk sitting in their own seat in that area so why no police back up for the sake of both sides.
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? I know there'll be some little b.stards mate but in the same breath there are some big b.stards as well in there. The club needs these young lads more than the other way round. You either deal with 'em properly or risk losing 'em forever.
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? That was my point, it's not been managed right imho - and as for the stewards on the ground - personally if one bites after some provocation then hard cheese imho. Saturday was just the culmination of a badly handled situation, fault on both sides imho. And I'm speaking as someone who got a bit too involved with that lot from Sheff, so I don't think we should all just sit down and applaud nicely.
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? Agree. Interestingly at the last home match of last season a couple of lads ended up having a scrap wi' some bell end in the West Stand. Not a single steward abart. Imagine if that happened in the corner of the Ponty? The 'lads' would be straight in.
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? Last year there was a proper kick off in that section between some bigger mesters, and that was left to sort itself out... Young'uns do need a scutch to keep em in line though tha noz
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? No, Dyson the club does not 'need these young lads.' How many youngsters are deterred from coming to Oakwell because of the risk of trouble, how many parents wont let their children come to matches because they don't think Oakwell is safe? How many children stop coming because they feel intimidated. And lets bury the myth that shouting obscenities, banging seats, banging walls creates a good atmosphere - it doesn't.
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? Alright mate. I've never felt threatened at Oakwell. I've never seen any trouble there. If you don't like swearing and noise I suggest you don't go to games. Or walk in the street.
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? If you're too scared to let your kid go to Oakwell you might as well lock em in their bedroom. Probably one of the safest grounds in the county. I've never felt threatened or intimidated or seen much trouble in my 30plus years of going. If you don't like swearing nor noise is suggest crown green bowling rather than football might be more fitting. Whatever little atmosphere there is in Oakwell cones from that section. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the situation it was dealt with badly by the stewards and the club. Provocation is never a good idea in an inflammatory situation. Also crapping yourself when faced with people who could respond rather than pushing young kids around just makes you look like bullies. Of course we need those young supporters they are the future. Given our small gates pissing off our fan base is provably not the best plan
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? If you feel intimidate at Oakwell now you obviously never watched football in the 70s. Most of those "Hooligans" are now respectable family men who sit in the ES upper politely applauding the team. So yes we do need these young lads because they're the supporters of the future.
All this is all very well But when are we going to address the widespread cottaging which is endemic across the toilets in the Ponty End?
Re: All this is all very well Many parents with young children have the PERCEPTION that Oakwell is not a safe place for their child. Until parents are happy that their child will be safe than they aren't going to let them come to the match and crowd numbers are not going to increase. (One of mine doesn't come any more because she doesn't like the swearing - oddly enough when it was a whole group chanting obscenities she didn't mind - what put her off was when this one middle aged chap near us kept standing up and started effing and blinding by himself) Anyone who can't enjoy the match unless he/she is swearing or is hearing someone swearing has a problem.
Re: All this is all very well Not sure if you're replying to me - but I have some sympathy with your view - my daughter will hopefully be coming to games in the very near future but when she does we'll be moving from The Ponty - not that I want the Ponty sanitised of all aggression/whatever just for me, but a bit of empathy on both sides here wouldn't go amiss. But when I was younger I was a right gobby fcuker at games.
Re: All this is all very well Do they? How do you know this? I don't know, how may? Is it a lot? If so, how do you know this?
Re: CCTV looks everywhere ? Our young un's going - whether he fecking likes it or not. 18 months old, he hasn't got long to go. Just waiting for the CP coat to arrive with the gas mask attachment, those smoke bomb mules won't stop him.
