Most of Smithies workforce spend more time smoking weed than emptying bins. Random tests introduced because the management know it's happening. Try refusing to pay your council tax and the finance department at BMBC will soon send you a threatening letter.

Is it too much to ask that safety of the operatives could be left to their own good sense and experience? They are not idiots.

They are if they're smoking weed; should get the sack.

Well, whatever the new safety rules are it seems to have resulted in the bins being left more or less outside the right property!

Some safety rule, endangering the public by having bins blocking pavements for months on end.

Mine have always been put back where they were placed by residents. Now I have to move 6 people's bins from across my drive every week

    This morning's Chronicle:

Matt O’Neill, executive director for growth and sustainability, said: “I fully understand and appreciate councillors raising concerns on behalf of residents in light of the recent disruption to waste collection services.

“We’ve made an investment in additional drivers and loaders to mitigate the impact of a perfect storm of bad weather and our ongoing work to improve safety for both waste and recycling staff and residents.

"I’m pleased to say that we’re caught up and all grey, brown and blue bins are now being collected on residents’ normal scheduled days, apart from a small number of exceptions due to routine issues such as vehicle breakdowns, roadworks or obstructive parking.

“I’m grateful to our teams for getting the service back on track.

“I’m sure elected members and residents understand that while we all want bins to be collected on time, it’s vital that this is done safely.

“We’re now focusing our efforts on restarting green bin collections as planned next month, making sure we can do this safely and to the service standards residents expect.”

Either Mr O'Neill is not telling the truth or he has no idea what is happening on the streets.

It snowed for a day in the first week in January and they've hid behind it for three months.

They're still doubling down on the ridiculous Health and Safety policies introduced by the new top dog.

    It won't get better.

Yet again brown bins not been done in Kexborough. 8 weeks since mine were last emptied as for some unknown reason they decided to change the last collection to the blue bin instead

I suppose they'd complain if folks cease recycling and just lob everything in the grey bin?

Seems odd. Apart from the green bin, ours have been bang to schedule for several weeks. Brown bin was collected at 8am today - normally it's around midday, so if anything they're ahead of themselves. That said, I'm not hopeful that the green bin will get emptied today. But fingers crossed...

Update. Green bin just been emptied.
