BMW / Audi Drivers

Now I'm retired and not ploughing in the miles every day, they don't bother me as much as they used to, but from casual observations, BMW drivers don't seem as bad as they were and if you have a car up your exhaust pipe and trying to pass in stupid places it is far more likely to be an Audi.
Range Rover drivers up here annoy me though as a lot of them take up far too much space on the narrower roads because they don't want to get too near the edge in case they get them mucky!

 

I've had several Audis over the years. I've driven left hand drive Audis on the wrong side of the road, left hand drive Audis on the correct side of the road, right hand drive Audis on the wrong side of the road and right hand drive Audis on the correct side of the road. I've driven on glaciers in heavy snow with winter tyres, and on one frightening occasion with summer tyres. I've never thought of myself as a typical Audi driver, although over the years I've noticed other drivers seem to think they can drive where I want to go and slow me down. A bit inconsiderate, but I eventually got used to it.

The thing that reinforces stereotypes though is that there are a large section of these drivers who do act like they own the road.

 

I do exactly the same, I'm 68 and have had 9 cars in my lifetime.

 

Had several vauxhals over the years cannot fault them. My wife has a fiat Panda and it great.

have an eighteen year old VW - regularly serviced at Crows Garage Pogmoor - runs perfectly well. (Get a bit annoyed when it's assumed I drive an old banger because I can't aford something better!)

Have noticed that if I stop/pull in on a busy roasd to let the oncoming car pass the bigger the car the less likely they are to acknowledge your consideration.

o/t - anyone have a BFC registration plate or a personalised registration plate - think the latter a tad naff!

Reminds me of my old boss.
We’d turn up for customer meetings, him in his B reg Astra Estate, me in my BMW and would make a point of pointing out the cars.
We never mentioned they fact the reason he had that car because he was converting a million £ property & had a £100k Range Rover with very expensive private plate on it parked on his drive.

 

I think it’s more to do with the things you tell yourself when you’re driving than any real prejudice. Someone cuts you up, or flashes lights at you while driving at manic speeds and happens to be driving a certain type of car. It happens again and it’s the same make of car and then you are looking for it and ignore anybody else who does it.
In the past I’ve driven BMW, Jaguar, Volvo, Mercedes and currently own a Lexus, so it’s not about up market motors.
Of that lot, btw, the Jag was the worst and the Mercedes the best, but I’ve no complaints about the Lexus. Never driven Audi though.

 

Idiots can be behind the wheel of anything. On Wednesday I drove back to London down the A1. Near Hemel its 3 lanes, I was in the left hand lane doing 70. The road was empty. A vehicle came right up behind me and UNDERTOOK me on the hard shoulder. The vehicle was a white transit van.

 

well if you were in one you would have have your hands free and in the other you could hog the drive thru lane at costa to get a replacement. ;-)
