I simply don't agree. Can you give one example of a team who has moved grounds and had a big upturn in success? The most high profile example I can think of have had one of the leanest periods in their recent history since moving grounds.
You overlooked the feelings and financial burden to the lower income fans in your assessment , Just as the cooperates and executives are doing, do you think Abromovitch will still be a Chelsea fan if he sells up and moves back to Russia or some other country he fancies, The game is held together by the proper fans that are still there when the going is tough not wannabe rich playboys or investment bankers that would walk away without a thought at the merest hint of a struggle.
Im more concerned that a rich premier league club can move to a public tax funded stadium, used taxpayers money to make it 'football friendly' (at a cost of £20 million) and they arent contributing anything to matchday stewarding etc and only paying £1.5 million a year rent. absolutley stinks this. Just isnt fair on other clubs and taxpayers. Legacy eh??
With the exception of Man City they haven't done anything outstanding which was my argument. And City have bought the title, they'd have won it regardless of where they played plus have their attendances changed significantly since they moved to the Etihad?
And Doncaster, arguably. Sunderland also picked up after moving to the Stadium of Light - their last few years at Roker Park were amongst the worst in their history.
Swansea back in top division for first time in 30 years and a League Cup win. Hull and Reading in top division for first time ever and both got back up after relegation, something we didn't. Hull got to a FA cup final too. Those three are in their most successful periods ever.
This. Man City wouldn't have been bought without the stadium. It's not just the seats it's the facilities that come with it. Like others have said, Donny and Rotherham too. Plus Cardiff got to the Prem. Loads of examples. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think investment has played as much a part as moving grounds which is my point and like I have said with Arsenal it hasn't improved their fortunes. I may be old fashioned but I don't believe that you have to turn your back on your history and move grounds to be successful.
Actually I don't want us to move grounds. I'd be happy with a new West Stand putting the capacity up towards 30,000. We wouldn't need more than that. Some clubs though have benefitted from new grounds depending what they've moved from and to. I think what we already have will do us because of the land round Oakwell. We're not hemmed in like a lot of grounds are, such as Upton Park.
Excellent post SR.Oakwell is ideally situated for home and away fans, so close to the town centre.. A New West stand....Oh and a new Feckin scoreboard and the jobs a good un.
