Depends as he might end up like Howe waiting for a position they think they should get and then leaving it too long and ending up forgotten. I genuinely think he would be interested. He can stay in the area he is settled in, coach at a very good level and wouldn't need to make wholesale changes. I think we could afford him too and with Brexit making some markets harder I would like to think we would at least ring him to hear his thoughts. He would have seen our last few head coaches poached with compo met and likely be happy with a similar deal where if a bigger club comes on he can take it and we get another couple of million.
It would show real intent from the board to try and maintain last seasons progress pulling off a coup like Wilder. If he was promised he'd be backed and we'll keep this squad together maybe he could see it as another shot at the premier league.
I’d be astounded if Wilder moved to us. He will be able to command huge wages and will want a big club
Who would want him at a big club. If he was called Christophe Wilderio then maybe but it's well known how good English managers are constantly overlooked. It's why England ended up with a couple of foreign managers and someone as great as Dyche never gets at least linked to the clubs he should with his record.
Agree but plenty of champ clubs would forest, Birmingham derby etc etc would chuck money they’ve not got at him
I would agree. I just think with our track record of success with coaches, the season we have had, how little tinkering needs to be done, where he is based and the usual 2 million or whatever release clause then we should have higher expectations than normal instead of us all being negative. We aren't the usual relegation fodder and can use the Val compo. If we chat to him and he says no fair enough but nothing to lose from having a chat with him to know his thoughts. He could tell us unrealistic salary expectations, say he wants a bigger club, say as a Blunt he would never come to us, say he would want to be a manager not head coach but at least put out some feelers to him as we have nothing to lose.
Jose Luis Mendilibar might be worth a look. Overachieved at Eibar for the last 6 season and left when they were relegated last season. Likes to press though I suspect he might be beyond our means.
Dale Tonge just secured his UEFA pro licence. Worked under Stendel. Knows club extremely well. Watch this space.
Ever since Dane mentioned something about it being difficult to recruit from Europe now but at the same time other avenues have opened up in the US or even Mexico I've assumed that all our new recruits, coach included will arrive in a sombrero. I therefore propose Héctor Altamirano: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Héctor_Altamirano "He announced on April 6, 2016 in an interview with Reforma that he is opening a mid-size fish aquarium in San Luis, a city he represented as a player. His aquarium hosts mostly sea fish and mammals, including white sharks and orcas." So he will be lured in by whatever fish tank Peter Ridsdale installed during his time at Oakwell.
I know I was being a bit facetious! Seriously though, how good would it be if he did come and got us promoted to the Prem while they wasted all their parachute money. I'd take that!
Hannes Wolfe getting it according to The Sun today. He's been linked to us for years without getting it.
