Bored so just gonna chuck in a few (probably ignorant) thoughts on the referendum

    The problem is , that was exactly my sentiments 40 years ago and they proved to be wrong in hindsight.

    Purely going from memory now. On the 'In' side we had bulk of the Labour Govt plus the bulk of the Tories and Liberals supported massively by the press . On the 'Out' side were mavericks like Tony Benn and Enoch Powell supported by The Communist Party and hard right wing party The National Front .
    The arguments from the 'In' campaign were basically that there was nothing to be concerned about as The Common Market as it was the called was purely that..a market , no more than a handy mutually beneficial trading arrangement. Tony Benn warned quite clearly of the long term aspirations of a single European state , but at that time it seemed too outrageous or at least unlikely to even consider seriously... that allied to the Communist and National Front support for ' Out' convinced me that the more moderate elements must be right.
    With hindsight Tony Benn was right all along.
