I'd rather have Ted Debiussy than King Kong Cundy.

How you see any fault on Collins here is beyond me. It really is.

I don’t want Cundy hung drawn and quartered for it, mistakes happen, but that goal was 100% on him - for not being able to kick a ball five yards; Collins did his best to get him out of the **** but couldn’t.

I’m not sure Brad Collins can be blamed for many goals this season. Even the long range chip he wasn’t that far out of goal and the lad caught his attempt perfectly, a proper once in a thousand attempts thing for someone at this level. Can’t remember many more ‘errors’, I’m sure there have been some but they don’t stick in the memory.

All this said if we’re going to continue to concede a penalty every game we might need to consider saving penalties as the primary objective … though I’m not sure Walton’s record there is much better either.

Agreed. A bad pass by Cundy and a bad attempted save by Collins are one thing (or two), but when the ball comes clear, Cundy is facing the wrong way, head down, with his hands in his pockets, heading back prematurely to the halfway line for the restart.

I'd love to hear his explanation for what he was doing. He literally turned his back on the action and just stood there.

The fact that Collins plays a very big part in preventing shots on target, by regularly coming out of the box to beat an onrushing forward to the ball, should not be overlooked. Collins is always ultra alert and plays the sweeper keeper role superbly, in my opinion.

I seem to remember a rather critical comment from Ismael with regard to Walton's failure to save a single penalty in a League Cup shootout with Bolton.

Yep, the bloke who scored a winner a few days prior.

It's football, for Barnsley, in L1.

    Course it's hit and miss.

I'd still love to know what he was thinking though. Did he think Collins had got it under control so he wasn't needed or did he think it had gone past Collins and there was nowt he could do? Felt sorry for him because he always seems to be one of those 100% players. Tries his hardest even if he's not a world beater

It's not that long since David de Gea, who used to be regarded as the top keeper in the Premier League, faced and failed to save any of 11 penalties in a shootout and then missed his own!! Man United were thus beaten 11-10.

Bet he was the first one to apologise when they got in the dressing room at half time. Probably before Mads could even get a word in.

I remember that game some of the worst pens I've ever seen I'd have fancied my chances of saving some of those. Our head coach was schopp back then though.

tbf, mads was probably in the corner keeping his head down! I'm a big believer that in freak moments like that, players need an arm round the shoulder, not a b0llocking. was good to see his team mates do just that, immediately after.

That's true. He looked crestfallen. Players make mistakes and you can see they are annoyed with themselves. Cundy looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him up. You could see how gutted he was. I would guess he said sorry at half time and needed picking up by team mates.

Walton's antics (as much as I prefer him) in that penalty shootout were bonkers.

This, this & this. So much more to just shot stopping these days. I cannot believe he's getting heat for the lack of shots on target, when he's a massive reason teams have fewer shots on target. It's clear for all our managers too, regardless of their quality. He allows us to play a highline which gives us a completely different option in our overall game.

I like Walton, I feel very lucky he's our number 2 as I do think he's capable. But he's not a patch on Collins for me. His distribution isn't always great, but it's definitely improved, he's throwing long more too. He does so much work we don't even realise unless we specifically look for it, especially his composure with the ball at his feet.

Ederson, Alisson, De Gea even Neuer in the World cup, all have had major fk ups. And they're some of the best keepers in the world. So if we're seriously expecting a keeper in league one never to make mistakes is fanciful

We could have still been taking them now and he wouldn't have saved one kept diving asif his feet were tied together. I don't think he is a bad keeper mind just not as good as Collins for me but it's all about opinions.

Walton Didn’t get anywhere near the one today either. I mean the odds are totally stacked against saving one anyway.
