Agreed, except I always thought Conor looked a player. Genuinely not sure I can say the same about Potts. But Hecky et al know better than me so hopefully I'll be proved wrong.
I've seen all games he's played in for us. I'll give any player a decent chance, if they put the effort in, but walking to a ball that is 2 yards away when a team mate is desperate for help, is just not good enough, He needs to up his work rate drastically. I have no idea what Hecky has seen in him, because at the moment there's a distinct lack of talent, coupled with a huge lack of effort. Not as if we're short on midfielders. If / when he has a good game, I will be the first person cheering him on, but at the moment he's a huge weak link in the team, and one we can't afford.
id like to give potts a massive pat on the back for that "proffesional foul" in the second half nearish to the end....as they were breaking away against......did exactly the right thing and tiok one for the team. lets give him time....he defo has ability....i know swansea were looking at him.
To be kind to him I think he is just unfit and shouldn't be on the pitch until he is , so far he looks out of his depth , Hecky must see something in him that I can't , which is all that matters really
Harsh, harsh comment. I commented tonight that at the moment he is reacting to events, not making them happen. He will have better days once he finds his feet. At present he seems to look a bit lost.. but don't make him a scapegoat.
In a 4141 formation we played today when we have a goal kick because of his height he pushes up with Bradshaw to try to win headers, it was his best performance today and hopefully will keep improving but still a long way off. We just need to get through this month and pick up points where we can then the team will become stronger.
S hit art ov a 50/50 today which nivver goes darn well in my book. Both home games I`ve wanted him subbed. Maybe chucking him in the deep end aint helped him.
I think he's getting a bit of a bum deal here Potts. Completely agree that in the last 10 mins or so his legs had given up on him and he should have been replaced but his not sprinting back to sit in front of the back four looked to be a tactical decision. Forest's number 31 was starting to have a bigger and bigger influence in the game the back end of the first half/start of the second. After about 10 mins of the 2nd half the ball went out of play and Hecky called potts over to the bench. From that moment on he stuck to 31 like glue and gave him very little time on the ball. It looked to me like he'd been told to do a specific job although granted I could be vastly wrong. Defensively (despite what a few older chaps around me think - GET IN IIIIIIIM!) you don't always have to be tearing around the pitch like a headless Dawson and it's purely about containment. We struggle offensively most against teams that dig in and are organised rather than teams that employ an all action pressing game. I Think we'll see more of that from us this season in terms of containment and Potts will be a big part of that strategy.
Thought when Bird came on (who did very well incidentally), Potts did much better because he didn't have to worry about defensive duties as much. He nearly scored, and we looked better defensively. He also broke up an attack with a cynical tackle getting a yellow card which I like in a weird way. Streetwise. Whole of midfield needs to be stronger though; more aggressive even if it means getting hurt or getting booked. Williams frustrates me - he looks good, but has anyone else noticed he makes tackles, wins the ball, but then doesn't keep it? Much potential from all though
I was thinking just before that that we'll not get many yellow cards this season unless we learn to dish it out. I was screaming at Potts to take him out to stop the attack and gave my biggest cheer of the night other than the goals when he did. Maybe too many inexperienced players can make us soft but you've got to take one for the team and Potts did.
He didn't look to get involved in the game enough for me. When he gets on the ball he's quite good, and his aerial ability gives us a much needed option from goal kicks, but it was rare that he actually put a foot in, which is disappointing given the size of him. That said, I think he'll come good. Fair play to him for hacking down there lad and taking a booking. We were crying out for somebody to do that on Saturday.
Big lad who is trying hard. Bit short on fitness but I am sure he will get there. 100% better last night than against Ipswich
