I think this is something people don't realise. When we were both in League One in 04/05 and 05/06 our average attendances were higher than Bradfords. Icer up top there says they averaged 13,000 the last couple of seasons, failing to mention their season tickets were still only £200. They've gained these new fans largely because they've drastically lowered their prices the last few years, remarkably taken a risk and lowered them again this season, and gained thousands more on top. Their owners had some bottle and it paid off. We sold out in the Premier League and managed 15,000+ at home most weeks at full price for a few seasons after. We have the fanbase/population to attract 15,000+ a week, but one of two things needs to happen. We either need to have a season where we're fighting it out at the top for most of it, or we need to lower our season ticket prices. Seeing as the first thing hasn't happened for years, it would be logical to try the second option. But we haven't, again, and I doubt we ever will. Cryne/Mansford would rather see 8,000 at Oakwell at full price than risk getting the ground full, getting new fans on board for life and breathing new life into the club. Can't see how that will change any time soon.
Right, less of the chit-chat between all members on here. I applaud the Bradford initiative. I will not buy a s/t at over 300 quid for third division football. I will however buy one without a second's thought at 150 quid. Instead of either moaning about it why does somebody not put it to the powers that be at Oakwell to get their reaction. What would it take to implement this at our place? And before you say "they won't do it cos we are Barnsley and we don't or can't", ASK Ben or whoever. Surely there are people on here who have the ear of Ben, etc. You supposedly have meetings or discussions or whatever it is, so find out.
Things like this have been put to the club several times under crynes ownership. Shot down in flames time and time again
Don't get me wrong, it's worked wonders for Bradford. But for it to work at Oakwell, we'd need to at least double our early bird season ticket sales, just to make the same amount of money as we are doing now. That's the downside potentially from the club's point of view. I reckon £200 maybe a better starting point, to gauge the amount of interest it is likely to generate. But if they tell the fans that we need to double season pass sales for price of season pass to be halfed the club don't lose out. Only the fanbase who what they pay for a season pass would be based on sales. The club don't lose out at all and make more from increased programme sales, catering, advertisement etc. Plus the players get to play in front of much bigger crowds which will help our player recruitment because it would be another selling point to players who maybe otherwise wouldn't think about joining us. Far be it for the club to do something where themselves, the fans and the playing squad all win from doing it
we could do it at early bird stage by means of a non refundable deposit - do a decent marketing thing around it and say if they sell 12,000 in early bird stage all those signed up will only pay £149. They could turn supporters into marketers - get mates to come etc. £149 is a no brainer compared to on the gate prices. Even those that dont know due to shifts would be able to take the plunge. more supporters = more revenue and better atmosphere and a those in turn breed more of the same and that lasts for years. Only downside is increased polic costs and increaed staff requirements and an even longer time stood waiting at the shitty food outlets and gates. They should run it if they truly wanted to bring football to the comunity - and not be just a business!
Never understood long catering queues. You want our money yet want us to wait for ages to give it to you. Should be a thing where upon arrival at the ground you purchase whilst it's quiet what you want, are given a number and then at the time requested they can make sure it's ready for you to pick straight up. No queuing necessary and alot more conveinient to the customers you want to buy off you.
