My point precisely main reason for the rebirth of BFC as a championship club. I hope he goes onto much bigger and better things despite really wanting to be selfish and keep him at Oakwell
that is the most sensible post I have read on here in a long time! My opinion would be that it would be nice if we kept him new contract or not because at the end of the day he is under contract to the club and if we do not want to sell we do not have to and if that means he goes on a free at the end of next season then that is his choice. I think he has had a superb season but that means **** all for next season and he'll have to prove himself over again if he wants a big move!
agreed whilst it may not be the popular opinion on this board howie has a year left on his contract, he should shut up and knuckle down, then see what happens....
for me it is a chance for the club to make a stance we obviously do not want to sell and have no need to (e.g. release clauses, financially more secure as a club) and it would be nice to keep him regardless of if he signs a new deal or not and try to push on next season. If we sell we will get branded a selling club as usual by the majority of fans and I am realistic to know that if an exceptional offer has come in it makes sense to sell but I cannot see anyone bidding more than 1.5 million (mostly made up of add ons, appearences etc) due to contract issues and for me I would like the club to say if he was to turn down any deal offered by us; "you are under contract until the end of the season we will not accept any bids for you this season and at the end of the season you will be out of contract where you might feel your future lies elsewhere!?!" Doubtful but it would show the club has some ambition in keeping our better players??
