I think he wants to stay, don't think it's all about the money.... but perhaps I personally couldn't be greedy! In my job I could move all the time but i've rather be near the place I love and the people I love/or love me, more than earning a bit extra cash! Surely if you earn £5,000/£10,000 a week it wouldn't matter if you were if you loved where you are!
If only it were that simple unfortunately, whenever contracts are on the table, agents crawl from the woodwork and for them instability equates to income. I can guarantee that even if Brian wanted to stay and the club offered to double his wages, his agent will still be speaking to other clubs during the process. Once the player has stated his ambition to play at a higher level, the clubs bargaining position is considerably weakened. And the reality is, even if we were to turn a big offer down, if he wants to go, we'll have to accept eventually.
According to this mornings Sun, he's going
Says he wants 10 grand and our wage structure is £5k. We have offered to up it to £6k but he's not interested.
Don't know how much truth is in it though, Kozluk is supposed to be on more than £6k isn't he?

'Don't know how much truth is in it though' hmmmm...the clue is.. IT'S IN THE SUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From The Sun...... Tyke it or leave it! FA CUP hero Brian Howard is being flogged by Barnsley - because they cannot afford to keep him. The Tykes were set to offer their skipper, 25, a new £10,000-a-week deal to fend off Premier League clubs Everton, Blackburn and Portsmouth. But their hopes of holding on to the midfielder, who has 12 months of his £4,000-a-week contract remaining, have been shattered. The Championship side have to work under financial restrictions after going into administration six years ago. They have to operate a wage cap of £5,000 a week - and the former Southampton star is not prepared to accept a minimal rise.
spot on If a prem club comes in with a "sensible offer" then I don't imagine that he will be staying. I would imagine a few clubs will come in with offers of around £1.5 to test our resolve (and Howard's) and then the fun and games will begin. He's a great player and has been fantastic for us, but I really can't see us holding him against his will if there is the lure of the Premiership and an offer which made financial sense for the club.
This wage cap of £5000 hows that work then Who is the contract with that states we cant play a player more than £5K a week The only constraint I know of is the total wage cap based on % of turnover but that doesnt place any restrictions on individual salaries, also its nothing to do with Admin Doesnt sound believable to me
RE: spot on As I posted yesterday, I think he'll sign a one-year extention with improved wages, and then will be off at the end of next season if we don't go up. That way, everyone's a winner - we get an extra season out of him and don't lose him on a free, he gets an improved pay-deal.
Prob be more the club setting that figure, rather than a contract with someone else. Think Sheff U use to operate to around a 6K wage cap for years.
Do We Have A Bank Loan/Overdraft that contain the terms of what wage structure is allowed before the loan is called in or OD withdrawn? That's the only thingI could think of.
Its the reason why I keep harping on about attendances the wage cap is relevant to all Football League clubs and enforces that the wage bill for ALL staff must not exceed a percentage of overall turnover. Our turnover is relatively low as our average attendance is one of the lowest in the league, the wages we are able to offer are consequently hindered. Besides which, if we offer Brian more than double bubble, who'll be the next knocking at the door...?
