5 years in Prem model Find a great manager, pay him well and hope he stays for a few years (Valerie) Spend £80m a year to stay up (Dike, plus six young £10m players) Continue with recruitment policy developing unknown young players Owners pocket £80m, less wages and cost of new West Stand Sell Dike for £40m and sign four more
The problem with what Burnley have done is they don't sign decent footballers. Eventually there won't be three or four worse teams than them. They're dull as dishwater to watch.
Burnley spent a few years as a yo yo club building their infrastructure as they progressed. It didn’t happen overnight or on one promotion so we need to be wary of the downs as well as ups .
I think they've hit the wall and are one of the clubs that could be relegated in the next season or so.
People have been thinking that for the last four years . At some point they may be right but the infrastructure they have built allows for that imo and gives them a good base to fight for promotion if they do .
They looked ok against Wolves yesterday. Chris Wood hat trick and Josh Brownhill also looked good. It’s a measure of the challenge if we do go up that they are one of the weaker teams in that league yet still managed to blow Wolves away.
.....and then sell the club to new owners who use the clubs money to buy the club ala Glaziers and Manchester United - no thanks Link
With any policy Burnley or other clubs of a similar ilk doing the job "right" there are no guarantees but offer me Burnley`s attempts at Premier League sustainability and I`d snatch your hand off. Anyhow - lets get there first!
I don't think any team in the Premier League outside the big six is ever really safe. Leicester have done well to establish themselves, but it's not so long since Everton were struggling under Silva. Wolves had a great year and dropped off a bit this season. Leeds will likely do the same. If you do well in the prem your best players will get nabbed.
I think Burnley have some good players. Brownhill £9m, Vydra £10m, Wood £15m, plus others like Tarkowski who cost much less. We'd need to sign at least six quality players and hope that Mowatt, Helik, Brittain, Styles, Collins, Woodrow? are good enough. We'd need a solid defence ie two more like Helik and a midfield enforcer. I'd see Anderson, Sibbick, Palmer, Morris as squad players. If Dike doesn't sign we'd need to find a similar quality replacement. When we were in the Prem we got 35 points and only needed two wins at the end of the season to stay up. Burnley have 36 points this season, 9 wins, 9 draws and are in 14th place. I'd take that for a couple of seasons, even if it means yo-yoing with another promotion. It takes us from where we are, to maybe being on a par with Brighton, Norwich, Watford as long as the owners stick to the plan. Long term they get loads of good young players worth £10 plus to sell on.
Move down to the photo of Kevin Ball and Jamie Pollock going for the ball and read the bit under it. Even the local Burnley newspaper are calling themselves Barnsley https://www.burnleyexpress.net/spor...ver-book-about-east-lancashire-rivals-3415620
