Nicking this from elsewhere....if anyone thinks genuine fans deserve this happening to their club.... From the times when i first watched the club in the manny road end at a stupidly young age moaning about how **** we were (my first ever game), to the times when Liam Robinson and David Lee were dazzling us, travelling to Bolton at both grounds for the glorious (and some not so) derbies, watching Lucketti, Butler, Johnson and so many other stars, missing the promotion match as season ticket holders, listening to the match in the swan and then somehow blagging our way into the players bar after the promotion ceremony with Stan Ternant and Sam Ellis to celebrate going up with the team, beating City at Maine Rd and seeing a fan tear up his season ticket, the volcano hot coffees in the main stand, the great songs, the familiar faces, the moments celebrating with Neville Neville, the realisation I should have worn thicker socks and gloves on another Tuesday night being snowed on as my season ticket seat was at the front of I block and had no real cover from the wintry weather. The celebrations, the defeats, the highs, the lows. The 'what the' moment as Baichung Bhutia seemed to cling to the referees legs at Blackpool in his debut like he didn’t quite know the rules, the rivalry with Rochdale, watching us play at a old Trafford, eating some god awful food at some truly great grounds, the annual trek to Radcliffe for the friendly. Wondering how Peter Swan could have such a large turning circle, to Ryan Lowe, to the Barmy Army, to lol Hugh Eaves funded it how??? To some stunning goals, to the hoof it upfield straight from kick off, to the chants of Brazil, it’s just like watching Brazil as the ball spent five minutes in the air being headed back and forth. To the joy of hugging random fans in a big piley on as we belted in the winner vs Dale to trudging home after losing on a Tuesday night away to Plymouth. To all the past players and staff and fans I salute you. All those moments are now lost to time, never to be felt again in the same way.
A lot of ‘big named’ championship clubs have in recent years: Sold their ground to a subsidiary company under the same owners. Secured funding against future ticket sales Secured funding against future transfers Secured funding against club land Generated investment through share issues Forgotten to pay tax until reminded by HMRC Secured funding against future tv money Secured funding against the prize money they receive Used the club to generate huge losses to offset tax liabilities within the ‘group’ Used the club to launder money Footballs ******. The EFL don’t care as long as they keep getting lucrative cast offs....
Agree. But you've got the issues on the EFL side that members vote on changes (why would a turkey vote for Christmas?) and the perceived threat of PL2 that i'm sure is rumbling in the background. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some clubs look at these collapses and high indebtedness levels and look for more greed and lucrative money to be the answer, and to hell with the pyramid and anyone unlucky enough to be cast adrift. At such a stage, would the EFL survive?
Everybody wants everything now. Problem is when you're securing funding against all your future revenue streams you're going to end up down **** creek. Derby will be next to hit rock bottom.
Four years ago I worked on a high profile project under the command of Debbie Jevans. Of all the hassles, stress and ****-ups over the course of the two years, she showed not a jot of leadership. The only time she ever showed any inclination to 'get involved' was when a third party made a mess of the formatting of her email signature. She was furious and for the best part of 6 months she wouldn't let it go .... She is in charge of the EFL now. I despise her not because I ended up taking a bit of heat from her, but because of the way she conducted herself. Never have I met a more self-important, high and mighty madam in my professional life. I cannot see the EFL surviving under her (which may be a good thing) but how much more carnage will she cause to how many clubs before she falls on her sword. The absolute f3cking cow.
Crikey, Jez Moxey. He's been about. Recall he's been at Stoke, Wolves and I thought he was still at Norwich. Not to blame, I agree. But there is some hypocrisy when you consider the debt levels at Bristol City, Derby and Reading! It might be a starting point that members of the EFL board are debt free and solvent, and fully transparent in their activities.
The problem is that means pushing more clubs over the edge sooner. It’s not like this happened overnight. Bury has been in dire straights off and on for nearly 20 years.
What is really sad about this whole debacle, is how completely out of touch the EFL is. Bury have/had something that Mega Clubs don't have something that the EFL are blind to. Down the road from bury are two of the worlds biggest football clubs, yet bury have a loyal fanbase and a club that is intrinsically embedded in that community. That's why the Bury fans choose to support their team instead of going a few miles south to Manchester to watch the multi national superstars whose teams have no link with the fans or the community. In many ways Bury are like Barnsley, Rotherham Huddersfield and Doncaster, the football club is the beating heart of the community. It is sickening to watch that woman, the CEO of the EFL, cry crocodile tears about the loss 'of such a great club', when it has been the absolute indifference and incompetence of the EFL that has brought about Bury's demise. The EFL has allowed financial mismanagement of clubs providing it has been on a grand scale whilst at the same time being draconian on lesser clubs with more minor issues of mismanagement. At the end of the day the EFL could not care less about clubs like Bury.
Sad their fight has finally come to an end. Hope they can make a re-birth lower down the football ladder & people that really care about the club take back control. Hope that piece of **** that bought them for a pound rots in hell.
Im so glad i heard from Jeavons on talk sport. It was the day Bury went out and Bolton were still in the thick stuff. There were so many inconsistencies in her statements but i was impressed she had decided to do the the interview. However she claimed that there were "no red flags" on bury or bolton's finances! Yet also claimed that potential owners had to submit a 2 year plan of sustainability. From this i have concluded that the alleged regular financial tests are a joke and everyone is blowing smoke up the a#ses of the EFL. They then do not have the man power, the will nor the correct regulation to apply their weak guidelines. The clubs are being allowed to abuse their finances, through the acceptance of employing owners, who then take the p#ss, deciding if and when to pay the tax man and other bills and generally fiddling the accounts. If we are to move on from this horrible world, we need to introduce strict financial rules Everyone adheres to. Bolton have been paying loans on top of loans for years this is not an acceptable "2 year plan" Sanctions need to apply and proper governance and compliance immediately.
