Not at all mate, I've been more than vocal in that I really rate him and he's going to be a cracking player. My original point was he's not impacted games in the same way Butterfield did. Goals from nowhere, creating things from nowhere, left foot, right foot etc.
To be fair Mellis hasn't had the team built around him like Butts had. Mellis has often been shoved out wide or played deeper. His goals and assists tally are comparable, and Mellis has plenty of assists to assists too (if yer know what I mean).
That's a good point! I saw someone comment on butterfield making more of an impact. But have a look at both players stats! Mellis scored more goals and made more assists!
Nobody is disputing Mellis' ability. In fact, when the majority on here a few months ago were slating him as lazy etc, myself and Dyson were his biggest admirers/advocates. The lad is quality, and only 22. But he's not - in my opinion - been as good as Butterfield was for us. So far. For starters, Butterfield scored 5 last season, with 6 assists, not to mention the amount of shots he fired in that were spilled for Davies/Vaz/Gray etc to slot in. And he missed 5 months of the season. Context.
I think they'll stay up, although the WBA game this weekend is do or die. Win that, and they're safe. They've been ***** since Hughton took over, and Butterfield hasn't been given a chance. Ask Bobby Hassell - if a manager doesn't pick you then you can do little about it.. He obviously prefers Howson and Johnson. LOL. Good luck to both him and Stones. Both gave their all for this club and made the club good money. But I'll say it again - we and they have moved on. They won't be returning as BFC players any time soon, if ever.
The key word you used is was. He's barely played since leaving, it could take time for him to get back to how influential he was before, if he ever does. For me, he'd had a decent half season, there was very little to say whether he'd have continued his fine form for us had he stayed.
Undoubtedly. I agree, despite my allegiance. But isn't that a reason to move on and for certain people in this thread to finally let go? He may have been **** had he stayed.... and we've got Mellis. Move on.
Both fantastic players, but I thought the two Jacobs were excellent together under Robins, a great understanding and appreciation of each other's games. I'd have JB back in a second, even though I take the mick, Andy.
