We drew 1-1 at Aldershot, before beating them 3-0 in the replay.

I remember - went to both games. At Aldershot, we spent best part of an hour trying to navigate a huge park / common to get out of the ground. The Police wouldn't let us out onto the street, so there was this bizzarre situation of Barnsley fans trudging through this park, trying to climb over walls, to get back to their cars/ buses. Very strange set up.

I remember the replay well. Larry May scored twice - a goal at each end and a screamer from Gwyn Thomas to win 3-0

As an aside I think Larry May only scored 1 other goal for Barnsley

That was May's last game for Barnsley, too.

Didn't he score against Plymouth in a 1-1 home draw earlier that season? It was our first point of the campaign, too, in our seventh league game. But I'm certain he scored one or two more goals during his time with us. Then again, my memory's not what it once was.

I was just about to post that I'm wrong - he scored 3 League goals for us. Memory fading here also

Was it Aldershot that had our fans and there’s in same stand behind goals obviously divided down the middle with no stand behind other goal if I remember right.

    Yes.
These old cup games seem to stick well in the memory. I've still got the match ticket too.

I've got that one (without the sponsor on). My dad was putting it in the charity bag about 18 months ago. Can't believe he was going to throw it out with how much they're worth these days.

I'm assuming that it no longer fits? My brother also has one, but it's age 6-7!

Signed him from Birmingham and he played a fairly significant part in our improved form in the second half of the 1986/87 season, think he scored 3 or 4 goals including a beauty away at Blackburn. Sadly couldn't repeat his form the following season. Very quick but final ball often left a lot to be desired, 33 years later and we're still saying the same!

Got to know Mick really well, I was 13 or so at the time he signed and he used to call into our local newsagent in Brierley every day around the same time I was waiting for the school bus, he himself used to get the bus to training. Always good for a natter, a million miles away from the players of this era. He lived in digs on Clifton Gardens, a house owned by a bloke called Bill Francis, he used to put a few players up for the club.

I think he went to Scarborough after leaving us and then pretty much left professional football and I think ended up working for Land Rover or Jaguar back down in Birmingham.

Photo is of him (on the right) in 2019 playing for the Birmingham City Old Boys, I think it's Jeff Kenna next to him. Nicky Eaden also player on the same day this was taken. [IMG]

Rodger Wylde's goal that won the replay is on this video. A rare decent cross from Mick Clarke too!
