It's midfield and up front that has cost us. In the main we've been quite solid. It's just there hasn't been anyone to get a foot on the ball in the middle of the park Bassi could do it but he's too light weight. It's been like a hot coal too much in the middle. Gomes, Bassi and Quina are good on the eye. However, they offer a different type of ball retention. Otherwise it's been pinged about in neat triangles which is what I believe the owners wanted when they installed Schopp.

There's been no thrust all season. A brief glimmer of it with Quina. Too sparingly though. This relegation is massive.

 

I know - i said it would be unfar to pin it all on him. I just dont feel he can play in the system we do. Hes completely lost defending, devoid of confidence to beat a man and cross, lacks quality infront of goal and too slow to track back. I like the effort he puts in and he was great in a back 4 last season but he isnt the same player this season without Val leading him. Shame.

 

Its his willingness to blame others and hide away, then going public with stuff, meanwhile fluffing 'easy' chances. I genuinely cannot believe how had his positional sense is as a defender. Yeah sometimes he's good on the eye with a sliding tackle - a tackle he shouldn't have had to make if he were in a better position.

I know I sound harsh, and a ****. But I really couldn't care less whether he plays for us ever again at this moment in time. Just watch him in particular if you watch the match back from yesterday

its the system IMHO - he never knows whether to come to the winger or keep tight with the CH which has left us exposed over and over and the other times he's half way up the field, balls over the top of him into the corner and the CHs are exposed again.

 

That's no excuse for when he has the ball though. Constant long balls, and when there's opposition around him, many a time he will take them on and lose it, or when there's a pass on forward, he'll do a little unnecessary flick, and pass back, annoyed me no end against Millwall. Its frustrating because I do actually rate him and think there's a player in there somewhere

 

Hang his head in shame? All this silly criticism of Britain and others doesn’t improve their performance. I know and I respect people’s right to voice their opinions. So what, how does it make them play better. He’s a professional player contracted to BFC. He doesn’t go out with the intention of annoying the fans (I say fans not supporters). I ask people to consider why players who were exceptional 12 months ago are not performing well now? It’s too much of a coincidence that there should be a collective under performance.

 

Calling someone’s performance $hite is a personal insult. Personal insults and criticism are questionable as the sole means of improving performance. Having a masters degree in management which includes motivation and industrial psychology I feel confident in saying that criticism is the least effective technique for performance. Criticism is ok providing it’s constructive. Destructive criticism and denigration is invariably detrimental and destroys confidence. In yesterday’s game the current ‘flavour of the month’, Quina, had a good game but still got caught in possession and misplaced passes, but, there were no howls of derision. Unlike Palmer who was derided before he kicked a ball. My point I’m trying to make on this thread is not about the right to criticise but to question it’s validity and its efficacy in improving performance.

 

True. When Williams got injured, I thought the nearest we had to a natural replacement for him was Hondermarck, even though he'd only played one game in the back three all season. But has pace, and can drive the ball forward, and more likely to be able to play both Right Centre Back and Right Back roles, as Williams did, than Brittain. Brittain's best game was probably against Fulham (after a dodgy opening 10 mins), but that was when Kitching was playing left back, and was the one to tuck in to make a back three at times.

If he is to switch to a back three again, it should be Hondermarck, Andersen and Kitching (assuming Helik isn't available), with Styles and Brittain at wing back.

 

I'm becoming a little confused by the posts (not just you) suggesting hondermarck is a ready slot in to the back line.

Earlier in the season his cameos were mostly in midfield. And that's where the BBS was clamouring for him to be selected more often (me included)

But all of a sudden everyone is classing him as a defender just because the club are "retraining" his position.

Or have I misjudged all the posts on here?

 

That's fair. As well as the comments about retraining him, I'm pretty sure that his one start was at the right of a back three, away at Middlesbrough (though moved into midfield second half), and was probably the only player to come out with any credit. And his last appearance was as a late substitute at right wing back.

If we are to play three at the back, and Helik isn't available. Then the third CB would be either Brittain, Hondermarck or Moon. May as well go with the unknown frankly, and see how the retraining is going.

Jordan Williams getting injured was a huge issue.

He slotted into the back 3 superbly just like he did when Struber was in charge & we looked far better for a couple of games.

It’s annoying that Moon & Kitching played so many games in there ahead of him when we’d all seen how good Williams was there. I think this is another issue with a huge turnover of staff. There should be a coach there pointing that out to the new manager but they all change that often there’s no one here that probably saw him playing that role just two seasons ago.
