We go on about dementia and footballers, surely the ref has to err on the side of caution in boxing?

 

If that's the threshold then we might as well call it a day for boxing.

 

Always tough for ref - can’t win.

I think ultimately it was the right call - he was going to suffer from another barrage from Cal, and the ref’s stopped it.

Both go home safely to their families. That’s not always the case sometimes…..

 

So happy for him and the family.

Not sure what the ref saw to call it off, but it wouldn’t have gone much longer anyway.

Oh yes, I’m sure the ref’s done it in the best intentions, it just seemed a bit early, but there was only going to be one outcome after that

 

What's the point in doing more damage though? The ref was always going to stop it as Callum s just said.

Poor stoppage, although he did stop Woodall from getting potentially a heavy knockout, because it was coming. Simpson landed a couple of decent punches just before, so I can understand why the referee erred on the side of caution. But it was a title fight, so Woodall deserved a little longer, and Simpson deserved a big finish. We could end up with Woodall demanding a rematch now, which he otherwise wouldn’t deserve, cos he was getting beaten up.

 

You've got to let it reach a proper conclusion. They put all that training in, it's unfair to stop it before it absolutely needs to be. Woodall was just about to throw back. He'd only been caught with a couple of shots.

It would have ended soon enough anyway. Ref was far too keen to stop it and after the Dubois fight also had a poor ending.

Question.....

What's his profile like across Yorkshire? He's spoken about as Barnsley, but what does the rest of the county think? I have no idea for example if people from Sheffield, Leeds, Wakefield etc have taken to him and go to follow him.

When someone from Yorkshire fights I think of them as Yorkshire and want them to win even when they are promoted heavily as supporting a particular club like Josh Warrington was or based in Sheffield like Brook, Nelson, Hamed, Woods etc.

Early stoppage but Woodall’s defence was non-existent & it was only heading one way. Even if it had gone on I think there’s very little chance we get more than 20 seconds more action.

I think he was a pretty poor British title challenger & probably hit the jackpot getting Lerrone Richards at the right time.

The stoppage was early but fight was only going one way like you say.

Woodall was a decent amateur And a more experienced pro than callum coming off the back of a good win but callum was on form tonight. Saw the radio Sheffield interview where he speaks about fighting Liam Cameron if Ben whittikar doesn't and says oakwell in the summer all the stands.
