As I said The ceremony is the most important part, surely they'd understand . Dad's done it lots of times !! ff
the only time ive ever been in Barnsley on a match day and missd the match was for my cousins wedding, we were playing Middlesboro at home, Aug/sept 1989 and i thought about sneaking off during the photos, my grandma said she would be cross with me if i did, so i stayed lol, Grandma was special
Dad has always said Everyone on both sides of the family know about him and Barnsley , so if they've arranged for a wedding when a match is on , they know what will happen .
Anyone who arranges a wedding during the football season should know, and accept, the consequences! OK, it's not exactly during the season, but that's beside the point! If your wife is ok with it then you can live with the rest of it, if the wife was against it then it might not be worth the hassle....although there's always divorce! A few years ago (probably the last relegation season) we were at home to Bradford, I was going to the wedding of my partner's friend. Reception was at the Metrodome, so I left a bit early and went to the match! Ar lass was fine with it, though apparently her mate was less than impressed when she asked where I was!
Mum and Dad got married on 2nd June 1984 Which was the nearest date to my late Grandad's birthday ( he would have given Mum away at the wedding ) and was also during the close season . Dad's left a number of family weddings to watch a game . I have been warned !!! ff
I can see it now He just gets down the aisle and gives you away, and then he legs it down to Oakwell!
My last three weddings: Sister 1; Barnsley Play-off 2nd leg, 2006, convinced we'd been knocked out for half an hour after we'd won due to dodgy text information. Sister 2; Barnsley v Cov C 2006, new brother-in-law a Cov fan and a fixture we'd really wanted to go to. Cousin; Leeds getting relegated to the third flight So you're not the only one who misses important matches, at least it's only a friendly and not the LC!
