Agree totally, but at both extremes - the super rich paying fck all and those who will not work just expecting a life on benefits have to be dealt with. Because both extremes can be used by those with a vested interest in moulding the system to their benefit.

If you're asking someone on £200 a week to pay 25% then you have to make those on £200,000 a week pay their share, but someone who works hard and finds themselves suddenly in the 40% threshold paying a punitive tax rate on a little extra won't take kindly to folk tossing it off at their expense.

It'll take some difficult action and the ignoring of the editorials in the Mail/Sun/Mirror/Guardian.

Perhaps a flat tax rate is the way forward, but from what I have read, this can aimpact more on lower earners.

I've read loads of articles about that - I think it's the rate you introduce it that is key - but might be wrong. Lots of politicians don't like it which gets me thinking it may be a good idea.

Complete overhaul of the tax system.

Progressive tax system, low, middle and upper rates. Decrease the rate of taxation at all levels.

No reductions, allowances, off-setting or avoidance allowed other than personal allowance.

If you earn money in this country you are taxed on it.

If you don't want to pay taxes in this country then you are not allowed to earn money here.

Agree with that. I'd be also inclined to make it so that someone who declines to pay tax here therefore relinquishes their passport.

Think he's regretting singling out Jimmy Carr alraedy having realised he's opened up a can of worms. Don't agree about the media not being interested in the others because if its a big (ish) name you can be sure one paper or the other will be after them now.

Perhaps the law should be changed so that accountants are equally liable for any tax returns that are later found to be dodgy. That might sharpen their minds and stop them recommending dodgy tax avoidance schemes to their clients - it seems at the moment that they can sign someone up for an avoidance system without any comeback later.
